The Browns actually have quite a few good pieces in place. I can see them trading Gordon because Gordon is a head case that is replaceable. But that defense is ready and built. Not sure why they would look to trade Taylor. If they do, hopefully they'd be willing to negotiate with the Pats because we could really use a nasty DT to replace Wilfork.

With the uncertainty of wilforks long term health and ability, getting this guy as a replacement would be a brilliant move.

Given New England's second round troubles over the years, I'd give them Josh Boyce and a 2nd for Taylor.

A big DT is not only a need for this year, but in the future as well.

That being said, Taylor makes Talib and Dennard's off-field troubles look minor. This guy can explode at any second. He's had multiple run-ins with average citizens--the kind of guy that could repeatedly bash a citizen's head against the pavement for a minor offense.

Agreed - if they're actually willing to trade him, then the Pats should absolutley make a run for him. Pretty much an ideal Wilfork replacement for this year, although it would create some questions next year for their respective roles going forward.

Wouldn't be very smart of the Browns to trade him, though, and contrary to a lot of others I do believe that the current Browns FO knows what they're doing.

It depends on whether or not the Browns are convinced that they are in full blown rebuild mode. If they are, then they could let Taylor go and it would only be a matter of time before Lombardi is handed his walking papers. They need to rebuild a few positions, but that defense is not one of them. They have a few key pieces in place there, anchored by Taylor and highlighted by Haden.

If you are rebuilding, you don't typically trade away your best young talent. It is typically guys who are older who might get more in trade value than what they can produce by the time the team has turned around or younger players about to become free agents who will draw more money than they are worth. I don't think Taylor falls into that latter category unless someone gives the right price.

Maybe making a TRADE acquisition might be a wise idea even if you have to give up an early pick since 1. they can help you THIS YEAR and 2. you might not be able to find QUALITY at DT where the Pats are picking when the draft comes around next year.

The Browns can kick Rubin back inside to play DT/NT. Hell, I'd be happy for the Patriots to go after him if they should so choose. They're one team who is particularly deep on the defensive line. That said, I do have a preference toward Taylor. One wonders if BB and his staff could give him the discipline and culture a developing player such as Taylor requires. Being taught how to master the position by Vince Wilfork isn't something that should be taken lightly. That would be my pitch to him if the Patriots were allowed to explore this option.

BTW, I'm sure the Browns are more interested in securing as many first/second round draft picks as possible to ensure they don't miss out on a cornerstone QB this time around.

At this point in time they have SEVEN of the first 120 picks, so they are in excellent shape at the moment to grab a decent QB.

They currently have 2 first rounders, a second rounder, 2 third rounders, and 2 fourth rounders.

If that doesn't net them a top notch QB candidate, shame on them. They not only have the opportunity to select in the top 5-10 as it is, they also have plenty of ammo to move up too...maybe both.

I honestly believe this team could be the next "KC" with their stout defense and handful of young skill position players. They seem to be nothing more than a QB away from being a 9-7 or even 10-6 team by next season. Hell, I think they could've pulled that off with Brian Hoyer at the helm, had he not bit the dust.

Whilst I agree with your thoughts supa, I see the Browns bundling picks into future drafts to embark on a Belichick build. I see this as a smart strategy for Cleveland and I think Lombardi knows it. That said, I don't see them parting with Taylor but Cleveland has options on the DL to cover trading him.

Unless Kelly returns soon and Armstead shows he's capable of doing more than sitting on the pine, BB needs to make a proper move to shore up the run D. The current group isn't getting it done.

There was rumors during the off season that the Browns were looking to trade either Taylor or Rubin. They can decently afford to let go of one of those guys because they are disgustingly deep on DL. I'd get either or personally. Good players that cover a need now, and for the future.

Side note on Cleveland: They def are heading on the right direction. Sucks for them that Weedon sucks, but they have a lot of talent, with a lot of picks coming up in the draft. And I think its fair to say they absolutely robbed the Colts on the Richardson deal. He sucks!
