Don Davis to retire

Patriots LB Don Davis has decided to retire.

Davis played for the Patriots from 2003-2006, mostly as a special teamer. He lasted 11 years in the NFL after making the Jets as an undrafted free agent in 1995.

Not even DeOssie's dad is saying Zak is ready to be a starter - but I hope they draft him too.

Here's hoping that Davis signs on as a coach. I think this guy has HC written all over him someday. You can't find a Patriots fan who isn't appreciative of all the little things he did to help make his team better.

You gotta love it when nice guys are actually valued and appreciated by an organization and the fans.

Don Davis retires

Linebacker Don Davis, who played for the Patriots from 2003-2006, has decided to retire.

"I sent in my papers the other day, I am retiring officially from the National Football League," he said on Sunday afternoon.

The 34-year-old Davis played 11 seasons, entering the league as a rookie free agent out of Kansas.

With the Patriots, Davis made his greatest impact on special teams. In 2006, he was placed on injured reserve with a knee injury Dec. 9. His contract had expired after the season.

I remember when he got a kind of summer internship with the team as an assistant conditioning coach. Had lots of good things to say about BB as a coaching model and really appreciated the opportunity. A very classy guy, I wish him all the best in his next career.

i remember reading an article about him contemplating suicide when going through a rough time
he was able to get through it and turn his life around into a solid nfl career
i always felt like he was a great guy, and as u all said here he was always more than willing to sacrifice everything for the better of the team, well wishes in ur life after football don
