Does signing Welker give our main guys a break in K or P returns?

Does the possible signing of Welker end the chances of seeing Maroney,Hobbs,Chad Jackson,Kevin Faulk or Willie Andrews out there on Kickoffs/Punts?

I think if we sign Wes,It will be rare to see any of our main starters out there returning the ball..except Willie Andrews if he is still on the team by September.

I believe that will be Welkers big thing on this team and may save an injury to Maroney or Faulk,Hobbs or even Jackson if he returns in 2007.

Although the price we may have to pay for Wes may be too steep for just a ST player,He will have to contribute much more on the offense for the money he may be getting or it would be a waste of losing a second round pick and cap $$$ IMO.

The only problem is that when you say "does this give our main guys a break" you are fogetting that Wes is our main guy if he does 75 for 800.

I dont see Welker getting 800 yrds in his first season here,I think he will slowly be put in the WR mix and will have a decent season if he is here..Of course depending on any future FA WR pickup or draft guy or even an injury to a WR or two, this may change

Also, remember this. BB will put in whoever he feels has the best chance to get the job done. If Welker doesnt give us good field position, then Hobbs or someone else will come in to get it done. I feel though, that Welker will be one of our main guys and will split time doing it all. As will all of the others, except probably Maroney.

meh. Maroney > Hobbs > Jackson > Welker

Maroney's done his time. We've got plenty of viable options, all of whom can get the job done as well as Maroney if not better. And this year he's the man, not "that rookie guy Dillon's platooned with."

I don't think we see LoMo on kick returns NoMo.

When did Welker become a great return man? He's a decent, not great punt returner, but as a kickoff returner, he averaged 22 yards a return, good for 28th in the NFL this past year..

Most teams avg 22y on KR. Last yr we avg'd 23, IIRC. Hobbs will be our KR.

Welker avg'd 9.7y as a PR. That's pretty decent. Few PR's avg in double digits. Very sure hands. He's our guy for PR.

One shouldn't use their primary RB as a KR/PR - but Maroney is so good its really tough not to. If Walker can fill that position anywhere near as well as Maroney its a win win as we minimize Maroney's injury risk.

Absolutely right....we won't see Maroney returning kicks in 2007. And this is independent of Welker coming here or not. A team is not going to send its #1 RB back to return kicks.
