I almost agree with your assessment

Stallworth - Deep Threat
Welker - 3rd Down and Possession
Caldwell- Jag, aveage WR
Gaffney - see Caldwell
Jackson - bust
I hate to think about all the WR you would have released after one year as busts based on this thinking.

Calling Jackson a bust is incredibly premature. The majority of NFL WR's need time to develop, especially in a system like the Patriots.

Perhaps, but CJack's reduced playing time as the 19 game season progressed speaks volumes. He was desperately needed.

-hamstring injury
-groin injury
-knee injury

who knows how that affected him and a bust for us might not be a bust for others. im sure BB could force CJax into starting line up and make him a 1000 yard WR but that would be without learning the offense properly and progressing .

his talent is there..his playbook was not

I don't think it speaks volumes at all. He was active every week so he was there to play if needed. After they released Gabriel they settled on the two starters, Caldwell and Gaffney, and had Troy as the #3 guy. Instead of playing around with those three, Gabriel and Jackson, they let Brady settle in with that group of veterans and tightened the rotation. That's all.

if we do indeed get Stallworth and WELKER..then im going to be really worried about Chad
I wouldn't. I would just think about 2008 with my goal being Stallworth and Jackson as starters with Welker as the #3 Troy Brown clone. If Caldwell or Gaffney wanted to stick around as the #4 guy fine, but they're both unsigned for that year as of now.

hit the nail on the head here

watch them draft a wr in the first round

FYI-Larry Ridley, the reporter I quoted is from Nashville,Tenn and went to Middle Tenn Univ.

Donte Stallworth went to Tenn Univ.

Is Stallworth his source????

I could see it if we don't sign another (in addition to Welker) FA WR. If we were to sign Stallworth then I'd be very surprised . . . the thing about this year, though, is there's SO MANY First Round candidate WR that there may be one who they absolutely love and can't pass on.

Let me fix this for you...

"Calling Jackson a bust is incredibly prescient "

{Insert favorite excuse for Jackson's utter non-contribution HERE, emphasizing how many wideouts put up paltry #s their 1st year}

Then follow by a post arguing we should spend a #1 pick on a WR "who will be an impact player", thereby contradicting completely the excuses for Bethel Jackson.

My bad, Bethel Johnson contributed on STs as a KR. Sorry Bethel.

Stallworth is an injury waitiong to happen.
For the price he will be asking for risk is much greater than reward.
I do not think this is a good way to go for the PATS, Would much prefer Joe Horn.

:D

And Joe Horn isn't an injury waiting to happen ?

Clearly, if the speed at which things have been progressing this weekend is any indication, the Patriots will have him signed in the next 20 minutes.

Is it fair to say that Tom Brady makes any WR a ton better than he would be anywhere else?
If Reche Caldwell was a 60 catch WR with Brady, what could Stallworth be with the Patriots?

I did the best I could....He's the weekend reporter on WHDH,he's fairly new and I didn't catch his name, but,I assure you that I quoted him correctly.

He did stick his neck out by saying "according to my sources".

If Jackson turns out to have little or no production in his tenure with the Pats, prescient would be the correct word.

However, considering Jackson's injuries last year, premature is the only rational word.
