When will people stop blaming the rookies for Brady being downright mediocre so far this season?

His accuracy is off, his decision making is off and his deep ball is 80/20 chance of missing.
We've seen enough of this season to know that the rookies and Brady are not on the same page. Still, it's laughable reading people saying it's the fault of the rookies or they ran the wrong route or they slowed down when it's abundantly clear on TV that Brady simply missed the throw. Unfortunately, 2013 has fast become a theme with Brady missing throws. I still love the guy, but he's nowhere near his best this season.

I can't believe people are slandering the defense. You've got to be kidding me. They were forced to stay on the field for practically the entire third quarter because the O-line couldn't keep the Jets out of the backfield. And they still came up big, time after time.

Really impressed with Logan Ryan, and I could swear I saw a Safety not named McCourty make a play on a ball. The D-line played reasonably well, although we saw what happens when everyone gets their wish and they pin their ears back and lose contain on the edges. No, Dont'a Hightower was not made to chase tight ends out of the backfield. I had thought that's why they drafted Jamie Collins, but perhaps he's still too raw for the job right now. Give them a break.

Re: Force the ball to Gronk much?

Can't tell without seeing the game tape. No one else might've been open.

I don't know... Was Brady ever scanning the field? Too many of the plays seem to have only one option. Disappointing performance from the offense in the 2nd half.

What other option does he have? Aren't Thompkins, Dobson, and Edelman in the top 5 of most drops in the league?

Three receivers on one team in the top 5?

I'd be clinging to Gronk like a shipwrecked sailor clinging to a spar, too.

Dobson beat his man and brady basically threw it out of bounds.

Brady does not have the best deep ball in the game, but he is better than most QBs. It takes two players to hit a bomb. Brady has missed several this year but it also seems like the timing is just off.

People make it sound like Brady is underthrowing the blazing WRs. He is actually overthrowing more often than not. That is just familiarity with WRs.

Brady played like crap. But I did watch D. Nelson make some sick catches for the Jets. I mean Gronk was sun blind on an easy score.

I think the main problem is the play calling. Why don't the pats ever try and run or at least get out of shotgun. It is so frustrating.

Dobson should throw a tantrum every time brady overthrows him, just to give him a taste of his own medicine.

I was in a loud bar down here in Maryland watching today's game.

So my one question I have is - - on the Bolden reception down to the 2 yard line late in the game, what was the Patriots penalty on the offesettings?????

Gronk picked a Jets defender
He really did

Gronk set a pick on Harris which is why Bolden was so wide open. I'm not sure why these was penalized either... I don't have a great understanding of the NFL rulebook.

It's a new rule so your years of watching football are irrelevant. And it doesn't matter if it impacted the play or not (what penalty does such a thing matter?)

No ref has ever decided the outcome of a game by making the right call. Put the blame where it belongs.

The 2003 Miami Hurricanes would like to have a word with you then. That call cost them the national championship.

Seriously, don't pretend to know football if you're going to make idiotic statements like that.

Re: Force the ball to Gronk much?

The only big mistake by the rookie WRs I saw was Dobson messing up the back shoulder throw. I also didn't like Brady targeting Edelman on the outside a few times.

At least the Jets and their fans can never again claim that the refs favor the Pats.

even with the rookie excuse...brady blows this year....he needs to step it up If this team wants to go anywhere. If you can't beat the jets...good luck with teams like Denver and hell even the Bengals

Dobson was playing phenomenal. He caught the passes that he could get his hands on. Edelman looked good. KT seems to be stuck behind ad and Edelman.

I'm sure that there's going to be a lot of really bad posts made in this thread, so I'm just going to take a post from the game thread, modify it and add a bit at the end, and them I'm outta here so the two extreme sides can lob grenades at each other:

The Patriots defense is missing both of its NFL starting-level DTs. It's missing it's best LB, who happens to be the only LB capable of covering against the pass. It's missing its CB1, which leads to the CB3 and S2 being exposed.

The Patriots offense is missing it's best WR. It's dealing with a TE who's playing his first game of the year. It's missing it's only RB receiving weapon. It's got a pair of rookie WRs who are inconsistent, at best, and who struggle mightily against man coverage. It's got a center who is not starting quality going against an excellent pair of DTs. It's got a LT who's been struggling for much of this young season.

All this, and the team is coming off a last-second win in an emotional game, against an excellent opponent.

With that in mind, why were people posting as if they were shocked that this game was a struggle and ended in a loss?

Now, having done that, I'll just make one quick rant:

It took an offseason of incredible incompetence on the part of the "GM" to get this team to the point where the greatest offensive lineups in history have turned into this steaming turd.

Congrats Bill! You've taken the best team in the league and turned it into a mediocrity, in just one season. I sure as hell hope your changes improve by the factor of about 1000 that they'll need to in order to get this team just back to where it should have been.

No ref has ever decided the outcome of a game by making the right call. Put the blame where it belongs.

There were about 4,000 holds by the NYG offensive line on the 'play that should not be remembered'.

1 for 12 on 3rd down.
Now that is shocking along with bradys TD#s in the last three games. It was a mistake to surround him with so many new faces at WR, especially rookies.

The better team won today and we should be honest about that. Here's to no whining about refs, etc.

The rule may be dumb but it was there and the ST players needed to have been coached better. Tommy B has benefited from dumb rules before and we should complain now that one such rule is enforced. The game should have been closed out once the 11 point lead was established instead of having the O choke it up.

Let's be glad the team is at 5-2 and still top of the division. Miami losing today also helped! Now to regroup, get the injured players back, let Gronk get into a groove and kick some ass down the stretch!

Downs from the game

Tom Brady- QB appeared to zoom in on Gronk at times and over or under threw a great deal of passes. Did not recall seeing drops from the rookies. the INT was an ill-advised throw as well. Horrible 3rd down %. A day to forget.

O-line - The sight of Brady going down in sack after sack was disheartening. Wendell and Solder seemed to be culprits. Could not get the running game either in the 2nd half.

ST - Dumb mistakes and penalties (silly block in the back on the Edelman return)

Arrington - Seemed several steps behind Kerley and let the Jets establish their tempo early.

Hightower - Seemed lost on several occasion, esp when Smith was running.

Some Ups

Bolden - Nice hands catching passes for a change a good rushing TD.

Logan Ryan/Dennard - Great read on the Logan INT and the return. Dennard seemed draped over his men all day.

Ryan Allen - Really strong leg and did not really allow Cribbs to do any damange.

(upside for me- I will be getting so much **** done this work because I will be studiously avoiding any post game media coverage).

No guarantee that the Patriots win even with the missed FG.

Such an odd call. In OT, we've seen calls NOT made that are made during regulation. Here a call is made for the first time all season in OT. Also, 15 yards seems pretty excessive for pushing your own teammate. Really NFL? That's what you want to cut down on?

5-2. Another big game next week.

They hit that play last week for a OPI to take it back. I wonder of Dobson or Tom saw something different, changing the route.

This forum is unbearable after a loss.

Interior lineman on both sides of the ball blow. Brady locked on to Gronk. But most importantly:

WHY did the Pats not run the ball on the tying drive in the end if regulation? Three TOs means you can stop the clock as soon as the play is over.
