The Lions are giving the appearance that they might be willing to trade the No. 2 overall pick in the draft. Sure, they could sit at No. 2 and take left tackle Joe Thomas from Wisconsin. They could take running back Adrian Peterson. With Kevin Jones coming off a serious foot injury, that's not a bad option. But they've picked up halfback Tatum Bell and right tackle George Foster, so that could change their draft plans. They also are close to signing Bucs free-agent defensive end Dewayne White. Wide receiver Kevin Curtis left Minnesota on Saturday and flew to Detroit. He might be signed by Sunday. There is a growing chance the Lions might trade out of the second spot in the draft and pick up more draft choices. They have four fifth-rounders and 10 choices.

Interesting but the key word is "try". Many teams try to trade but don't have any takers.

I think that if we get Welker we should try to trade down with #28 and pick up a second & third/fourth. But, we may not be able to do that.

Before you have pipe dreams, look at a trade value chart. The

Pats could trade all of their draft picks and not have enough to trade

up to #2. The more likely scenerio is the one where they trade their

own #28 pick (as mentioned by another poster) and pick up a second round

pick and another pick.

looking at the chart they wouldnt even have enough to move up that high with the two first rders and next yrs
and yes thats a huge price
however, i personally feel calvin johnson is gonna be the next great wr
if they said we'd take those three first rd picks

The day BB trades into a top 5 spot in the draft is the day I totally give up. To tie up those contract resources in an unproven player, and to give up valuable draft picks to do it, seems to fly in the face of his core philosophy.

There's a reason Ditka's not working for a team anymore.

Every time we've had two picks in the first round there's a big rumor that Detroit wants to trade out and everybody naturally pegs us as the natural trading partner because of the multiple picks.

It never going to happen.

The Lions would be wise to move out of the 2nd spot, but would be maroons to not take one of the top 2 QB's. Sadly, even with having taken 3 WR's in the top 10, for 3 straight years, they could use a WR.

Matt Millen has to have naked pictures of somebody.

I thought Furrey and Williams played very well for the Lions at WR last year. I'm assuming they sign Curtis in about 4 more days. That is the beginnings of a decent WR corp. (Sadly it looks better than ours, even with the addtion of Welker.)

The Lions could move down to #8 and still probably get Quinn. However I think I'd rather have LOT Thomas than Quinn. They can move Backus to ROT.

The "trade value charts" are highly wrong in the top five. Only in a seller's market might those values actually hold. In a buyer's market, any top five pick is worth no more tha a pair of first rounders in the real world...

Yeah, but two late first rounders is still not going to be enough. If they were mid-round, maybe.

The only way Detroit can trade down in a credible manner is if they take picks AND players in combination... e.g. Asante Samuel plus the two first rounders-- something like that. More likely would be a team with a pick in the top-10.
