I'd been holding on with the Globe for a long time. I'm an old school type I guess, since I still like that feeling of sitting down with the thick Sunday section and a cup of coffee in the morning. Well, no more.

After the flurry of the last few days, I excitedly grabbed the bag off my front porch and unfurled it, expecting to see a full dosier on all the new players, reaction and commentary, perhaps a "have they gone nuts" column or two (it is the Globe) and so on. Instead here is what I found...

- A front page puff piece on Belichick "Open's up after a rough year" by a non-sports writer covering his various deficiencies in PR. Nothing really new here, and mostly an excuse to re-hash a bunch of negative quotes from media detractors and Ted Johnson. Why am I reading quotes from Art Model about his days in Cleveland AGAIN?! TODAY?!

So I turn to Sports and I find...

- More than half the front page of the Sports section is a story about Bruins players inviting their DADs along for a road trip, with pages of coverage internal. I'm no hockey fan, I admit, but a puff piece that's not even about a game? TODAY?!?!

- A lead column by Borges, acting like the Thomas signing was questionable (might have been defensible if not for the fact that he was hyping up Thomas for weeks before this, laughing at how we're going to miss another great one for being too cheap.) Any casual football fan might have concluded the Pats did nothing special the last few days, and might well have "reached" for someone. TODAY?!?!! :enranged:

- Their standard Sunday "notes" page (they have one page per sport with league news and notes) in which not a single Pats free agent move is covered but for the two week old franchising of Samuel?!

- A half page story by Mike Reiss buried on page 12 summarized the entire Patriots free agent news. The only bright spot of the day, buried and with no pictures, stats, or anything.

- The entire rest of the NFL FA league news was a insert sidebar barely a few column inches worth!

- No other columnist writes about the NFL frenzy of the last few days.

Granted, one might not have expected the Pats to be so active, but the NFL is always a flurry this first weekend. The Bruins and Celtics are both in the tank already, no real news in Spring Training for the Sox the last two days at least, and March Madness is still a full week away.

So out of 16 pages of Sports we have 1.5 TOTAL pages of one of the most active and interesting weekends in the NFL off-season!!!! :violent:

I'm done rationalizing it.

Do you post on coldhardfootballfacts?

PFT tore Ron Borges apart today

Been boycotting them for several years now.
Refuse to click onto their website ... much less register.

Except for that darned Reiss, whom they lured away from the Herald.
And then, only when someone here links him.

Anyone else is welcome to join us.

The NYT/Globe enterprise is going down the tubes. Part is an industry wide problem but really BAD management is exacerbating the situation.

Thanks, bud.

I mostly have been a reader here but decided to finally jump in with everything going on this week.

Welcome aboard. How about them Patriots?

I like the Welker move almost as much as the Thomas signing.
