Patriots LB Jerod Mayo's Season Is Over, Headed to Injured Reserve
By: Ian Logue

Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald reported Wednesday morning via Twitter that the Patriots have placed linebacker Jerod Mayo on injured reserve, ending his 2013 season....

So we have lost the key players in our line (Wilfork), linebackers (Mayo) and our secondary (Talib, who hopefully will be back at some point).

:bricks:

How is this better than 2005? ugh

Because at this point in 2005, we were 3-3 and had Monty Beisel & Chad Brown manning the defense. Relax.

We still have:

Talib, McCourty, Hightower, Spikes, Chandler Jones, Tommy Kelly, Dennard....

Losing both Wilfork and Mayo for the year is horrible news. The thing I find encouraging, however, is it's not quite as devastating as it would have been over the past 3 years or so. This year we have:
-Heavily improved CB Play
-Heavily improved (dare I say reliable?) pass rush
-Safeties that play within the scheme

We'll definitely have problems due to the injuries, but I don't feel like we have to write the season off because of them either.

It seems that there are so many injuries all around the league all the time. Football must be the only game in the world where it is almost impossible to actually find a team that is playing at full strength... it's not a good situation for those of us who would like to see the best players play and the teams perform as they were designed. :( Question for long-time fans - has it always been like this even in the old days?

I'm going to miss seeing him out there. By far the most underrated player by some fans.not big on interceptions, forced fumbles etc, but he could cover sidline to sideline and tackle most excellent. He will be hard to replace and wish the next man up luck.
