Power Rankings (I know)

What a bizarre season.

By that logic though, the Bengals should be ranked above the Patriots? We should all just ignore the rankings.

I'd go:

1. Broncos
2. Seahawks
3. Saints
4. 49ers
5. Patriots
6. Chiefs
7. Bears
8. Bengals
9. Packers
10. Colts

The Patriots did beat the Saints, but these are the power rankings, not the parity rankings. I still think the Saints are the better team because of their offensive weapons, but things can easily change. I think the most ridiculous thing is that the Chiefs are second. Sure, they're undefeated, but they haven't really beaten much of anybody. That defense is ridiculous but they'll start losing against better teams because the offense is pretty mediocre. I think they'll get swept by the Broncos, and lose their last 3 games (@OAK, IND, @SD) to end up 11-5 with the 5th seed.

By that logic though, the Bengals should be ranked above the Patriots?....

Why? The Patriots and Saints are 5-1, with the Patriots owning the head-to-head because of a victory just last week. The Bengals, though, are a game behind the Patriots in the standings, at 4-2

If the Pats and Bengals had the same record, I would agree with you. One loss is better than two losses though.

Power Rankings are really meaningless anyway. Who really cares? The only Power Ranking that matters is the one taken right after the Super Bowl. And even then, 2 through 32 is useless in that case.

I would think that home field advantage is about 3.5 points.

To put another way, if were to play the saints next week in New Orleans, I expect that we would be underdogs.

I would probably go

1) Denver
2) New England/Kansas (this is hard because Kansas are 6-0 but they've not really played anyone)
3) New England/Kansas
4) Seattle
5) New Orleans

6) Indy
7) Green Bay
8) San Fran

BTW, what happened to the NFC being so much better than the AFC? I would say there are more AFC teams in the top 10 and I think the AFC is dominating inter-conference play.

That's fine if that's your opinion, but that doesn't really explain that person's post.

"The Patriots have the same record as the Saints, and they just beat them this past week, so they should be rated higher."

is not the same logic as

"The Begals are a game behind the Patriots in the standings, but they beat them, so they should be rated higher."

The AFCW and AFCE were the worst divisions in football at the beginning of the year aswell.

I would put the Lionheads up there too. They are pretty good.

I would put the Pats tied with the Lions, Cowboys, Niners, Saints, Packers.

Only teams better than them would Chiefs, Broncos and Seahawks.

So a 6 way tie for 4th!! Hooray!:rocker:

And we care about this because.......???

LOL. I don't mind seeing us ranked #5 BUT how can they have the Saints ranked above the Pats when we just beat them? Whoever came up with that needs to get a new job!

the road to the super bowl WILL go through kansas city if i and my compadres must take mile high by storm while peyton's behind center in order to make it happen. and when it does i am going to lol

Maybe because they won on a virtual hail mary in the last second while playing at home and NO has looked more impressive in their other wins.

Playoff seeding basically trumps Power Rankings.

Though Power Rankings have the advantage of being able to see current state of the team. Not sure if we can field a rank #5 team, but good coaching and an elite QB can go far.

...........and exactly what planet are you on where this post could actually make sense?

Both the Patriots and Saints have beaten Atlanta and Tampa. Who was "more impressive"?

Arizona...>>>>> Buffalo or Jest?

Miami? huh?

It may be time to put to rest the 'weak AFC East' and 'NFC is vastly superior than the AFC' rhetoric.

- AFC 19, NFC 13 in 32 inter-conference games.

Inter-division records
14-4 -- .778 --- AFC West
11-5 -- .688 --- NFC West
10-7 -- .588 --- AFC East
8-6 --- .571 --- NFC North
8-9 --- .471 --- AFC North
6-11 -- .353 --- NFC South
7-13 -- .350 --- AFC South
3-12 -- .200 --- NFC East

In defense of the AFC South, Jacksonville is 0-5 outside the division, and the Jags and Texans are a combined 1-9 in non-division games.
