1) Denver
2) Kansas City
3) New Orleans
4) Seattle
5) New England

Yes, the Patriots beat the Saints, with half a team, but are ranked below them.

1. Broncos
2. Seahawks
3. Saints
4. 49ers
5. Patriots
6. Chiefs
7. Bears
8. Bengals
9. Packers
10. Colts

The Patriots did beat the Saints, but these are the power rankings, not the parity rankings. I still think the Saints are the better team because of their offensive weapons, but things can easily change. I think the most ridiculous thing is that the Chiefs are second. Sure, they're undefeated, but they haven't really beaten much of anybody. That defense is ridiculous but they'll start losing against better teams because the offense is pretty mediocre. I think they'll get swept by the Broncos, and lose their last 3 games (@OAK, IND, @SD) to end up 11-5 with the 5th seed.

Why? The Patriots and Saints are 5-1, with the Patriots owning the head-to-head because of a victory just last week. The Bengals, though, are a game behind the Patriots in the standings, at 4-2

If the Pats and Bengals had the same record, I would agree with you. One loss is better than two losses though.

Power Rankings are really meaningless anyway. Who really cares? The only Power Ranking that matters is the one taken right after the Super Bowl. And even then, 2 through 32 is useless in that case.

To put another way, if were to play the saints next week in New Orleans, I expect that we would be underdogs.

Why? The Patriots and Saints are 5-1, with the Patriots owning the head-to-head because of a victory just last week. The Bengals, though, are a game behind the Patriots in the standings, at 4-2

2) New England/Kansas (this is hard because Kansas are 6-0 but they've not really played anyone)
3) New England/Kansas
4) Seattle
5) New Orleans

6) Indy
7) Green Bay
8) San Fran

The AFCW and AFCE were the worst divisions in football at the beginning of the year aswell.

I would put the Lionheads up there too. They are pretty good.

I would put the Pats tied with the Lions, Cowboys, Niners, Saints, Packers.

Only teams better than them would Chiefs, Broncos and Seahawks.

Playoff seeding basically trumps Power Rankings.

Though Power Rankings have the advantage of being able to see current state of the team. Not sure if we can field a rank #5 team, but good coaching and an elite QB can go far.

It may be time to put to rest the 'weak AFC East' and 'NFC is vastly superior than the AFC' rhetoric.
