Did anyone else want to draft Allen over Dobson? I have high hopes for Dobson but Allen has looked like a true number one wr the last two weeks

There were a few people high on him. I believe it was Manx that was leading the charge, IIRC.

Ot Keenan Allen

I am happy with Dobson.

I liked him a lot. I thought he had a chronic long term injury which is why he fell so far. Dobson has looked OK.

Why choose between one or the other?

They could have had both. Allen went in the 3rd round, only 5 or 6 picks before Logan Ryan, if I recall correctly. I know because I was on this site's draft thread hoping Allen would fall even more. You could have easily traded up for the kid.

BB doesn't draft superstars. He likes his bargains at the flea market.

He was definitely a binkie, I actually hoped BB would grab him because he was thought of as a first round talent that dropped to a non-severe injury.

Slow for a WR, Knee problems and until the last 2 weeks his yards per game? 0 (assume he was inactive?), 34, -4, 80.

Good games against the Raiders & Colts doesn't impress me too much. Or are we supposed to anoint him the next Randy Moss after doing well against those 2 renowned defenses? Dobson & Thompkins have been fine so far.

I am happy with Dobson.

So am I. Aaron has more speed and has had no problem getting open on his routes.

I would also point out that one of our earlier "Failed" and "BUSTED" WR picks was the star of the Bengals game. Brandon Tate caught a couple, but returned a punt some 45 yards in OT to set up the Bengals winning FG.

Like CB Darius Butler, he was one who they gave up on too soon.

I like Allen as a first round pick but I'm satisfied with how things turned out. Dobson is a drop machine but he's faster and taller than Allen.

Agreed, Allen's skills weren't in question, but just about everything else was. He had significant knee and ankle injuries, a flagged Combine drug test, and there were lots of reports of a bad attitude turning teams off in interviews.

Another hindsight is 20/20 evaluation. Allen was drafted in the third round as the eighth WR taken. It wasn't like people were falling over themselves to get this guy.

Based on six weeks (and six weeks is not nearly enough of a sample size to judge any pick), Allen was a better pick than any of the receivers who went in the first round. But six weeks doesn't make a career.

Heck, Kembrell Thompkins six weeks into his career is playing better than almost all the WRs drafted before him. I am sure there are fans of other teams who drafted a WR in the first three rounds that aren't performing as expected saying to themselves "Why didn't we draft Thompkins in the sixth or seventh round?".

I really hate the second guessing of drafts. Unless it is a guy in the first or second rounds, there are enough questions about the guy that you really can't blame teams for passing on them even if they hit.

Both Allen and Dobson were high on my WR list.

But is seems that evrytime a guy we did not take has a good game on TV, we get another draft redo thread.

Yeah, cause being faster and taller really helps when you can't catch the ball:D

No they haven't, especially Dobson.

We got both Dobson and Allen aka Thompkins:

PatriotsXLVIII ‏@PatriotsXLVIII 6h

Kenbrell Thompkins 21 receptions 318 yards (15.1) 4 TD
Keenan Allen 23 receptions 332 yards (14.4) 2 TD

Boom.

Allen is getting #1 reps in SD due to injuries and the fact that he is their only remaining X receiver. He had a big game yesterday but I'll hold off on anointing him just yet.

Was it Week 2 there was all the angst over DeAndre Hopkins?

REC YDS YPC TD
Hopkins 25 340 13.6 1
K Allen 23 332 14.4 2
KT 21 318 15.1 5
Dobson 19 230 12.1 1

I will admit Dobson hasn't done quite what I had hoped, especially given the abundant opportunity, but I'm still high on him. And so far his rookie stats are right in line with Demaryius Thomas, who's native skill set and style to my eyes show Dobson's potential.

Dobson's drops have vastly improved each week. Heck he was starting over KT. Dobson is gonna be the star wr soon, he is on the verge of breaking out. KT is great also, we have 2 quality rookies.

If we want to talk about WRs we wanted to draft I still wish we could have gotten Alshon Jeffery in 2012. He is killing it for the Bears this season and they are still underutilizing him. I am very happy with KT though and still have high hopes for Dobson. Coming out of college he was known for his amazing hands and not dropping a ball his senior year, hopefully these drops are just nerves and once he settles in he will be fine. The good thing is he is getting open, once the game starts becoming more natural and instinctive to him he should be a good one.
