With Saban going back to the college ranks, I think there is a good chance that BB consulted him on the Welker deal. Much like BB consulted with Saban when he was the HC at LSU. Now that the dynamics of their relationship have changed, Saban can once again be an asset to the Pats.

Belichick didn't need info on Welker. He saw him over and over and over in his nightmares after the Miami games. The Pats couldn't stop the guy.

I think Welker will play dividends in some knock-down dragout games we're going to have with SD over the next couple of years. He may not have the pretty 70yd td's to gawk over. When it's 3rd and 6 and you need a first down against a tough, agressive D then we will be glad we have him.

I don't think BB needed too much information on Welker's on-field performance, but I'm sure that Saban could have provided an important insight into what kind of guy he is off the field and in the locker room. He sure seems to be a Patriot's kind of guy.

Good point, I completely overlooked the possible connection...

Welker is a younger Troy Brown clone, what more does he need to know?

Absolutely! SD,despite all it's coaching changes,is still a team with tons of talent and it took our A++ game to beat them(and jmo but that fact may have cost us vs the Colts, but that's another topic).
As to Saban,BB probably did consult with him about intangibles such as work ethic, locker room presence, attitude, etcetc. Those are things very important to the Pats, and also things which they are not necessarily privy to, no matter how good the player may be on the field.

I'd say Nick my boy, we don't need any more Marquise Hill recommendations from you wasting our #2 pick. We can waste it on our own like last year.

HA! maybe I am overestimating sabans value to the pats! I think welker will be an asset though. At least we have been able to see him audition in the big leagues.

Seriously, I do think that Saban's advice on Dolphin players & college players will continue to be solicited.

as hwc pointed out, BB has first hand knowledge about Welker kicking our ass every time we play Miami...

Yeah, he and Morris. I couldn't agree more. He'll never out Saban, but my guess is they had some nice chats.

Perhaps Saban advised BB as to the extent to which the new Fin regime is committed to a housecleaning. He could have dropped the hint that now might be a good time to pursue Dolphin players.

Hey they are good friends and good friends talk.....Keep talking bro

That's a great point. Belichick said that the relationship with Saban re-ignited immediately after Saban left Miami for Alabama.

All anyone needs to do is look at the LSU/Patriots pipeline that existed before Saban's venture into the NFL.

Wouldn't surprise me a bit.
