I have not counted Wes Welker, since he isn't officially a Patriot yet. A number with a slash (2/1) indicates signed players/FAs at that position; FAs are listed in italics. [Also, in general, the positions come from Patriots.com, so please don't argue with me over mislabeling. :) ]

Edited to reflect changes indicated below.

Offense skill positions: 18 signed
QB [2/1] T. Brady, Cassel, Testaverde
RB [3] Faulk, Q. Hill, Maroney
FB [3/1] Evans, Mills, Morris, Pass
WR [5/1] Caldwell, Childress, Gaffney, Jackson, Kight, (Welker), Brown
TE [5/1] K. Brady, Kranchick, D. Thomas, Trafford, Watson, Graham

Offensive linemen: 12 signed
C [3] Barthelmes, Hochstein, Koppen
G [4] Mankins, Mruczkowski, Neal, Yates
T [5] Britt, Bubin, Kaczur, Light, O'Callaghan

Defensive linemen: 8 signed
DL [8] Green, M. Hill, Seymour, Smith, S. Thomas, Warren, Wilfork, Wright

Linebackers: 7 signed
LB [7/5] Alexander, Bruschi, Colvin, Mays, A. Thomas, Vrabel, Woods, Banta-Cain, Davis, Gardner, Izzo, Seau

Defensive backs: 13 signed
CB [7/1] Andrews, Gay, Hobbs, Samuel, Scott, Spann, Williams, Mickens
S [6] Baker, Harrison, Hawkins, Mitchell, Sanders, Wilson

Special teams: 5 signed
K [1] Gostkowski
LS [1] Paxton
P [3/2] Baugher, Malone, Miller, Sauerbrun, Walter

That's 65 as of today--not counting the FAs. Needless to say, a number of those are going to be cut.

I'm guessing we don't carry 5 punters

Isn't Morris considered more of a RB? And Quadtrine Hill is listed on the PFW depth chart as a FB. I had to look up who the Williams at CB was. It's Gemara Williams... 1st year player out of the U. of Buffalo.

Banta-Cain isn't signed. Matt Shelton was cut in December.

It's 63 active if you include Thomas, Brady, and Morris, plus all the RFA and ERFA tenders.

The best source for rosters right now is:

http://www.localsports.ca/nfl_rosters/

They've been updating it multiple times a day with all the free agent signings. It's BY FAR the most up-to-date and accurate.

As I said before, I'm going by what Patriots.com says.

Been putting off doing this for myself ... because of the work.
So, thanx for the nice service (as corrected).

As everybody's been saying ... need a real ILB or two.
And a corner or so.
But not much more.

Patriots.com might be one of the least updated out there.

Believe me, it's by no means official. Miguel prefers the website I linked also.

I don't understand why some people believe the teams' official site's roster is more accurate than the rest. It sometimes took the Jets a week to correct number changes and roster moves. Patriots.com also had similar problems with numbers.

That's ironic, since I'm going by Patriots.com. :bricks:

Look, it's no secret Tully-Banta Cain is an unrestricted free agent and thus is not signed for 2007 and thus does not belong on the 2007 list. I can pull up any major NFL website to show you that.

Also, Matt Shelton was RELEASED off the reserve/injured list in December 2006:

http://profootballweekly.com/PFW/NFL/AFC/AFC+East/New+England/Transactions/2006/transdec.htm

Dec. 5: Placed on waivers: WR Matt Shelton (from reserve/injured, injury settlement).

Does Patriots.com even have a transactions section?!?! Their depth chart is maintained by the PFW guys. I wouldn't trust Tom Casale with a stapler, nevermind a depth chart.

That error was entirely mine, thank you very much. ;)

Again, I'm not saying Patriots.com is better than the site you listed, merely that--as it is technically "official", and up-to-date (in that it already lists Adalius Thomas, Kyle Brady, and Sammy Morris)--I figured it was reasonable to use that as my source.

Here's a first stab at a pre-draft 53-man roster for 2007.

Offense skill positions: 15 signed
QB [2] T. Brady, Cassel
RB [2] Faulk, Maroney
FB [3] Evans, Mills, Morris
WR [5] Caldwell, Gaffney, Jackson, Kight, Welker*
TE [3] K. Brady, D. Thomas, Watson

Offensive linemen: 9 signed
C [2] Hochstein, Koppen
G [3] Mankins, Neal, Yates
T [4] Britt, Kaczur, Light, O'Callaghan

Defensive linemen: 6 signed
DL [6] Green, Seymour, Smith, Warren, Wilfork, Wright

Linebackers: 7 signed
LB [7] Alexander, Bruschi, Colvin, Mays, A. Thomas, Vrabel, Woods

Defensive backs: 13 signed
CB [7] Andrews, Gay, Hobbs, Samuel, Scott, Spann, Williams
S [6] Baker, Harrison, Hawkins, Mitchell, Sanders, Wilson

Special teams: 3 signed
K [1] Gostkowski
LS [1] Paxton
P [1] Miller/Sauerbrun

Interesting, Michael McGrew is still on the books?

As a reserve/left camp guy, I think he has to apply for reinstatement with the league. He's a ERFA, so the Pats probably didn't tender him.
