Is Anyone Concerned About Thomas' Age?

Keep in mind there's not 6 years of full time wear and tear on his tires. He spent the first 3 or 4 years as a backup and special teamer.

So no, no concerns for the next 4 years or so.

Until we know the structure of the deal it is hard to know if age is a concern.

I don't expect that Thomas will be playing at a Pro bowl level at his age 6 years from now but I suspect that like most contracts these days the end of it isn't real years and salaries that either the team or the player ever expect will happen.

I have no concerns that over the next 4 years his age will be a factor.

NO...no...and no

Well I was at first when I heard he was only 30, but I'm sure he'll mature.

I'm not, I just think he makes them much much nastier to deal with, as they can switch alignments on the fly with the best front 7 in football. He's peaking and has skills that allow him to play a wide variety of roles, and 3 years from now he could be a dominant MLB.

I never expected them to make this move. but don't think they could have made a better one.I can deal with them losing WR's when they use the money for big time players like Thomas.

How can you not be concerned about a guy that is nearly 30 years old?

Lets get one thing straight here. As big as this signing is, AD Thomas isn't Ray Lewis. He is no Tedy Bruschi or Brian Urlacher. His comparisons are best with maybe McGinest or Colvin. Sure he has a bit more versatility to him, but in the end, he can only line up at one position.

Knowing that this signing is more comparable to signing McGinest when he was 30 years old and knowing that the Pats released him at the age of 35, I'm glad the contract is only for 5 years and that he will already be familiar with the defense.

You can't pay a guy at the age of 30 to figure out a new defense (Chad Brown) and hope he gets it before his skills diminish so far that the contract was a waste.

Realistically, I hope to see one dominate year out of him and three decent years. If the Pats can align the stars, they can have a another championship or two before it is all said and done.

This boosts the D like no one could have hoped for. YEAAAA!

However, he will be 30 bout the same time Little Brady is born. Is that a concern? I know it won't be in 2007 or 2008, but 32 in 2009 does scare me a bit. Especially a guy who looks to clear 28m in the 1st 3 years of the deal.

Thoughts?

Nope I am not worried.....He is a "young 30" in many ways for starters without a ton of "mileage" on him......and secondly, if he can give us 5 years of GREAT LB play .....he is worth his weight in gold. And, from talking with a few of my friends that are Balt fans.....He is a VERY EXCITING player.....this is good for the Pats in many different areas......GREAT GREAT friggin signing!!!

I threw the question out there. I'm not overly concerned either. I was hoping for more of a Briggs-type age wise (27), but Thomas is a better player in our system.

This guy will bring the same kind of energy #37 did his 1st year..YEAAAA!
