Obviously it sucks, but he probably would have needed the back tune up anyway.

Looks like this has made him a bit cautious and that might not be a bad thing. I cringed when he did that acrobatic flip and landed on his head a while ago and he does take too many of those chances.

With his athleticism ans skill, a little control could get the same great results, but a longer healthier career. Thoughts?

You would think so but...

"Day by day...haha...day by day".

Nah, I still expect Gronk to do something dumb. I mean falling on his head and nearly snapping his own neck didn't stop him from using his broken arm as a cushion so....why would this?

I just knock on wood every game and hope for the best.

Nothing wrong with stretching out to make a catch IMO. Just bad luck.

the silver lining is that we seem to have weathered the storm..lets not forget that last season we started out with a losing record and went 3-3 I believe in our first 6 games...this year without our top 2 targets we've gone 4-1 with our top 2 targets now just coming back "fingers crossed" healthy...i'll take it

Changing the way that you play to favor a body part that was previously injured is a great way to get a new injury.

Absolutely! That's what I've been saying. Those 4 wins are in the bank. No matter what the schedule, or future injuries, those checks aren't going to be uncashed. We could need those later, or we could end up with a superior record and nobody's going to look back at the first four and qualify that.

Also, as I noted, we're going to have a lot of backup players with good experience able to rotate in and smooth the way for the injured. Running backs, young DTs, if we pick someone up (hope) young receivers.

I'd like to pick up another TE, but we'll see.

I don't think a player like Gronk knows anything but how to play at full speed. If this injury leads to him playing in a more cautious fashion, then we're in trouble.

The only silver lining of this injury I can see is that his body will have a little less wear and tear come January. Instead of 16 games of being beat up, beat down, and thrown around, he will only have 10 or 11. But even something like that I consider to be minimal.

He's an amazing athlete without doing flips and landing on his head and neck. I think he's a smart guy and the lightbulb will go on. When you have that athletic talent, you don't need to break your neck to score.

I'm more concerned with the interior of the defensive line down the stretch and against teams with superior rushing attacks than I am about Gronk or the offense later on.

Brady has always had the offense on a roll come December and the cold months....I just hope this defense can keep glued with Vince gone.

You know I'm with you there brother. I also realize it's hard to find worthwhile big linemen when you need them, but you never know.

And yet, those sorts of moves have nothing to do with how he got his injuries. IIRC, he wasn't doing flips or landing on his neck when he was in on extra-point-defense.

Many players play special teams as there are only so many players, and ST's are part of the overall scheme.. note when other teams face us, how many "stars" are on ST's...

A freak injury gets freakier and more complicated.

Last year it was suggested that he take up martial arts to better understand how to fall and avoid further injury.. otoh some guys are just injury prone.

I didn't say they did. I just don't know how many times a 6'6" 265 pound guy can land on his head and neck without sustaining a major injury.

You don't wait for your kid to flip his car again just because he didn't get hurt the first time.

You act as if he decided hey, I'll do a flip and land on my head and see how that goes.
He didn't allow himself to be tackled. Take that attitude away, and we have a glorified Kyle Brady.

I agree, he needed to do something on that play. Nevertheless, he could easily have been paralyzed. He doesn't need to be out of control to make plays with his size, speed and athletic ability IMO.

There's a big distance between making plays in control and being a stiff.
