News on Tommy Kelly???

Don't be too sure. When did it become apparent Ridley had a knee injury? I didn't hear anything about it 'til he started missing practice.

Actually, we heard the opposite. Reports were Ridley's injury wasn't serious and not a big deal. It ended up to be serious enough for him to miss an entire week of practice and a game.

Yeah, the reports I heard about Ridley were that it actually wasn't his knee in the traditional "knee injury" sense, but more of his lower thigh.

Supposedly, it was a lower thigh/very top of the knee bruise which started to flare up during the beginning of practice on Wednesday so they treated him during the Wed practice session. It's quite possible that the doctors and trainers felt that a couple/few days rest were his best option, or even exactly what he needed.

I didn't get the sense that it would be something that would keep him out more than a week, maybe two at the very most. We'll have to hope that this is all there is to it.

I know all the talk about has been about his knee but I thought the coverage yesterday said he was getting his ankle taped?

You may be thinking of Dennard, SBB.

I know that Dennard missed a handful of plays there at one point getting attention to his ankle, which included a re-taping. It was reported in at least one or two sources.

Of course it's always possible that Kelly was getting his ankle re-taped too, although that may be more precautionary and routine as opposed to Dennard's case.

This what I heard as well. I'm pretty certain he'll be back right quickly, though I'm not as worried with the good results we've had from Blount and Bolden so far.

The key is still winning the division in order to get into the playoffs. Yeah, I'd like a higher seed, but I'd rather have the Patriots guaranteed a playoff slot and get ALL the players back and healthy than to have a higher seed and maybe still be hobbled due to injuries.

I think we dodged a bullet with Kelly. The Dennard injury bears watching though, as he was injured the previous week and re-injured in Cinnci. I would not be surprised if he is again "limited". With NO coming, we will need all the pass defenders we have.

Word is he's recovering from the shock of finding out he's not actually Irish

Yup I am sure that is what happened now that you point it out.

not at start of practice today...hopefully it isn't a long term injury

Wouldn't it be funny if just one time he actually did this?
Just started laughing when I read this thinking of BB getting asked an injury related question and going into detail.

Reporter: What's the status on Kelly?
BB: He had an MRI on his knee done today. Mild sprain. Will probably be limited in practice this week but it's 50/50 if he'll play on Sunday. Should get better with rest but we expect him back to full strength in about two weeks.
Reporter: ....(silence)

I don't know anything about Tommy Kelly aside from the fact that he missed practice today and they signed another body, but if Buchanan misses any time it looks like we'll finally see Jake Bequette.

What, no one is excited by this news?

I wouldnt be so sure this means Bequette sees action. It would be just easy and logical to not slide Jones into DT and just leave him at End and use Chris Jones and Vallano more on 3rd. Obviously if Kelly does not go this would mean more reps for the DTs but at least they have been getting reps which might make it more likely for them to pick up the load.

I doubt we see it as nothing in TC or preseason indicates we would use him this way but I would love to see Collins fill in for Buchannon on those 3rd down edge situations.

To be fair, Bequette did have a pretty fabulous 3-cone time at the combine for a guy his size, so if the Saints o-line is lying down in a similar shape, I'd expect him to excel.

Get the replay of Belichick on WEEI. I hear he spent a good 20 minutes talking about Kelly's status including reviewing the MRIs with Holley and Salk.
It Is What It Is » Bill Belichick says Rob Gronkowski still ?day-to-day?, team awaits word from Dr. James Andrews
How is Rob?

“He’s day-to-day,” Belichick said.

Is he making progress?

“He’s day-to-day,” Belichick added.

Does he expect information on Gronkowski later in the week to change the outlook?

“Yeah, I don’t know,” Belichick said. “That’s a question you can discuss at the end of the week, depending on what information is or isn’t available. I don’t know.”

How is he feeling?

“He’s day-to-day,” Belichick said.

How close was he last week to playing?

“He practiced,” Belichick said.

Has his physical condition improved?

“He practiced,” Belichick concluded.
why is the media so obsessed with this ? I dont get it at all.Even Iam tired of this gronk watch. when he plays he plays.

It looks like it's a pointless concern anyway, as Buchanan's absence was not injury related today.

I was just reiterating the media thoughts that we could very well see Bequette should Buchanan miss time. You very well may be right that it wouldn't have happened.

pshhh it's one knee...we all have 2...get out there tommmy
