Matt Flynn Released

Why give him a look??

Best place for him would be back to Green Bay where he was a product of the system.

Give him a look because . . . . . . . . . ?

Not sure this is the right time to be doing this but I think the logic in giving him a look would be two fold one if he can be an adequate back up we could afford to trade Mallet in the offseason but I think the offseason would be the time for this. The second reason is as simple as the fact 2 is thin at one of the most important positions and having a 3rd is not a bad idea luckily Brady affords us the luxary of going short and saving the spot but doesnt make it a bad idea to grab a 3rd if he is good.

Not saying we should but those are the two simplest reasons I can think of.

I think these 2 Flynn's failures in both Seattle and Oakland will kind of close this market for a "realiable backup QB that learned from years behind a established veteran hall of famer".

So if BB really had intentions to trade in this last off season or have plans for the next, I think after this case and those guys like Wilson and Pryor, even Kaep, playing very well , the GM's will opt for taking the risk with rookies instead of a 3 year veteran that had almost no field time.

It might be the veteran he learned behind. Hoyer didn't do too badly in CLE.

If the woeful Raiders didn't want him, "NO, thanks."

Danny Woodhead says feh to that logic. :D

Did Woodhead start off with the Raiders? I thought he was a Jests castoff that BB picked up for nothing more than getting the Jests stellar playbook...;)

Can he play receiver or rush QBs?

If we could trade Mallett for an actual NFL wide receiver, or for a pick to get one, then I would say heck yes, grab yourself Flynn for next to nothing.

This is flawed logic for starters Flynn was picked in the 7th while Mallet the 3rd so even with no or little NFL on field tape one was expected to be better than the other. But the real bottom line is each player is in his own circumstance and one guys failure will not stop the needy teams from over turning every rock in an attempt to find their QB.

And really I wouldn't be shocked to see Flynn get another chance to win a starting job from some other QB needy team.

Apparently they are not the least bit interested.

Packers show no interest in signing Matt Flynn | Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

Flynn Fever swept through Wisconsin at about 1:30 p.m. Monday. But to the dismay of the loud social-media movement to bring Matt Flynn back, the Green Bay Packers appear perfectly content with Seneca Wallace as the No. 2 quarterback.

Coach Mike McCarthy didn't quite roll out the red carpet for Flynn's return.

"Personally, I'm very happy with the quarterback room, the way it looks, the people in it," McCarthy said. "Obviously Matt was a Packer, very fond of Matt and his time here. As far as any roster moves and things like that, I really don't have any comment, but I do like Seneca Wallace, I like what he's done since he's been here, I feel very good about our quarterback room."

After auditioning Vince Young, Graham Harrell and B.J. Coleman all summer, the Packers eventually cut them all loose and signed the 11-year veteran Wallace. He doesn't have Flynn's experience in the Packers' offense, but Wallace has more experience overall.

And that's appealing to the Packers.

Green Bay has moved on with Wallace as the No. 2 and Scott Tolzien on the practice squad.

"I haven't watched the film of Matt so I really can't even give you an educated or informed opinion on how exactly he did play," McCarthy said, "but on a personal level I'm very fond of Matt Flynn, he was excellent in his time here and I wish him the best of luck.

"Sometimes the fit isn't right. It's a team game. You have 11 guys on the field at once and it has to be coordinated. There's a lot that goes into that and it's not easy. Maybe it just wasn't the right fit."

Brady, Rodgers, Rivers and Romo all went on to become franchise quarterbacks after at least one season of riding the bench. Like with all other circumstances, it varies widely based on player and situation.

Could just as easily say that after the failure of Gabbert, Bradford, Ponder, Freeman, Weeden, and Sanchez, the market has closed on picking quarterbacks in the first round. You'd have to ignore the success of Luck, RG3, Rodgers, both Mannings, Roethlisberger, Ryan, Stafford, Rivers, etc. etc., but it's easy to make a compelling case for just about anything when you only account for the examples that support your point.
