Thats pretty damn good, compared to Nate Clements' 8 years for 80 million dollars.

Also, a couple offensive guards have gotten contracts in the 7 million per year range this off-season.

So I'd say that kind of money for a player of A.D.'s caliber is a downright bargain. :rocker:

that's awesome that they're front loading it, because by the time it goes into the smaller years it will be time to extend warren and wilfork.

Basically they just got a first round pick for Branch, and Adalius Thomas for the money he wanted.


I can live with that.

That's an awesome deal and I agree it gives more money in the Warren and Wilfork years and for Thomas even though it's less money over all he's much more likely to see it all.

These reporters are something else.

My guess is the $10 million figure went out the window when Thomas and his agent decided to structure the contract intelligently, with a little more money coming in what figure to be Thomas' most productive years, instead of backloading a bunch of money on the last year or two.

The contract could have easily been 5 for $50 million, split 7 / 8 / 9 / 12 / 14, averaging $10 per. Now Thomas is more likely to get paid those last two years.

Based on the Pats history of being tough with the $$$s, the plays the guy makes, the NFL FA climate in 2007, the cap space teams have that deal is VERY reasonable. Basically the Pats said. "look, you give us 3 years like the last one and you will see every penny of that 24 mil."

Great job on both sides on being reasonable and realistic.

Agreed. If these are, indeed, the numbers, the Pats got a bargain, but Thomas makes out very well by getting 24 mil in the first three years. Seems like a win-win for AD and the team.

Haven't heard that in a while...we're back.

Thomas's deal likely has a split bonus (signing and option) similar to Brady and Seymour's deals. Brady's was basically implicitly guaranteed because of his cap hits and the structure the expiring CBA dictated. Seymour's said if they didn't pick up his option the salary became equal to the option and guaranteed. It just allows them to manage cash flow, cash over cap as well as cap hits. The earlier figures we heard of $15-17M could be the bonus amount with another several million in salaries over the first 3.

Poison pill offer sheet. It'll be something like 6 years $18 million with the seventh year at $20 million. The seventh year becomes guaranteed if he plays five games in a season in South Florida.

Thus, the $20 million poison pill won't be guaranteed for the Pat, but will automatically be guaranteed for the Dolphins. They can't swallow the poison pill and can't match the offer.
