FINS TRYING TO TRADE McMICHAEL

Alex Marvez of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports that the Miami Dolphins are trying to trade tight end Randy McMichael.

The price? A third-round pick.

At a time when neither the free-agent market nor the 2007 draft class is filled with high-end talent, the possibility should be tempting for any team that needs a pass-catching tight end.

McMichael is under contract through 2009. He's due to earn a $3 million roster bonus and a $1 million salary in 2007. Per NFLPA records, his base salary for 2008 is $3.5 million and his base salary for 2009 is $4 million.

The 2002 fourth-round pick has caught more than 60 passes in three straight seasons. However, he has been implicated in multiple off-field incidents involving allegations of violence against his wife.

If McMichael is traded, the Fins would then likely be in the market for another tight end. An intriguing option is University of Miami product Greg Olsen, who ran the forty-yard dash in 4.45 seconds last weekend at the scouting combine. But the Fins pick at No. 9 in round one, and that likely is too high to take him.

They could use the third-rounder that they get for McMichael (if they are able to get a third-rounder for him) and package it with other picks in an effort to get back into the bottom of round one, if Olsen is still on the board.

Wouldn't be shocked to see Patriots take a stab at this.
Would Dolphins need Asante? I'm not so sure they want Asante's 7+mil cap hit.

rofl...

why would Patriots ever trade a top 5 CB to the rival?

we dont need a TE anymore. we have our receiving guys and got our blocker. we good

We play the dolphins 2X. That rival nonsense is just something fans like to talk about. Top 5 for one season. And it would free up cap room. I'm not saying its the best option, or even that the patriots will do it. Just saying it wouldn't suprise me.

2 games can make or break your season. you never trade a great player to the divison

everyone knows that man

The Patriots might not feel he's a great player, otherwise they would have extended his contract. They know him best. Asante is a short term solution if they feel they can get a draft pick out of dealing him(to whoever) to find a corner for the long term it wouldn't suprise me.

not hey wouldnt feel hes a great player but they give him top CB money with the franchise..thats stupid

and why would we trade Samuel for a TE?

shut up about trading Assante for Frickin McMichael.

Keegs, did your parents go out and accidentally leave the computer running?

you're a moron.

you are just trying to stir crap up b/c we just signed AD and your team (whatever underacheiving pile of trash it is) sucks.

Sucks to be you.

I am very surprised that Cameron is talking about Trading McMichael. McMichael is the type of TE that Cameron likes to have in his offense. At least, he did when he was with the Chargers and they had Gates.

are u a dolphins fan or Patriots fan?

My point here is. Asante so far has enough credibility to say hes a good corner, but the Patriots might not feel he's a 7.8mil/yr corner. If they can find something useful in a trade along with say a 1st rounder they might consider it.

And I don't see any reason for anybody to be a Dolphins fan let alone myself.

My hopes are the same as yours. Asante has a great season, he comes to an agreement with the Patriots for a say 4-5 year deal. The Patriots win the next 5 superbowls beating the Colts in the AFC championship each year. Just thinking it might play out different is all.

listen. do u know what a FRANCHISE tag is?

the tag means your trying to retain a FRANCHISE player. FRANCHISE player is 1 of your best

Samuel would not be getting the franchise tag if Patriots didnt feel hes very good and 1 of the best at his position

Just so I'm clear on this...

The pats will trade one of the best cb's in the league (last year anyway), a position where they do not have a ton of quality depth, to a division rival for a te where they already have plenty of depth?

ROFLMAO

Obvious Packpeddling

I don't get it either. His contract isn't exorbitant, and this draft is thin at TE. Do they just want him out of the locker room?

He was franchised because his contract was up and the Patriots need the option to retain him at 7.8m due to the lack of corners in FA and because they have late 1st round picks...It was a good move.

You would be really suprised if they traded Asante Samuel?

Just because things have gone fast so far in FA and the Patriots haven't traded him yet doesn't mean much. It makes no sense to not to have franchised him, when they feel other teams would value him enough to compensate us in trade, and if you can't find the trade you're looking for, then your stuck with what is hopefully, a great corner.

In any trade I would have to think they'd be aiming at a high 1st round pick to get a corner they have their eyes on.

Well I would be shocked, but then I study the Pats and know a little something about their philosophy and their roster needs.

1. Asante for McM? NFW we'd put a strong player in Miami's D for a 3rd!
2. And trade him for in effect a 3rd which is what Miami wants straight up? Pats expect more for trading a Franchised player. That would be giving up way too much value.
3. With the K Brady signing, we have a well rounded TE corps, blocking & receiving.
4. The guy is a bad character. Myra would not approve.
