By no means am I a defensive expert in schemes, etc. but I did watch the ProBowl with the interest in how BB and the Pats staff ran the game. IMO, it just seemed that BB and Pees seemed to go out of their way in doing all kinds of different things with Thomas. At the time, I thought nothing of it.

But with AT's pending signing (fingers crossed), it all makes sense. I just envision this side session before/after practice, or dinner, or mai tais at the pool and BB taking 10-20 drink napkins and showing Thomas all the cool stuff he'd be doing in the PB....and at the same time giving him a glimpse of what the "elephant" position in the Pats D is all about.

I just go back to the story with BeliPioli taking Rodney to the Ground Round in Foxboro and diagraming all kinds of plays that he would be the focus of on notebook paper. Rodney's face lit up and went back to Gillette and signed the deal.

We all know the Pats aren't the type of team that shows a lot of flash to FAs. They appeal to a players passions- which is football and winning. If it's anything less than that, they don't bother moving forward in the woooing process fo FA.

My .02$

Adalius Thomas is not called "A.T." for short. He's called A.D. Not sure why, but he is.

I am sure that BB and staff loved what they saw from Thomas. I think we have found another leader on defense with him.

Why are we calling him A.D.??? Did his last name change to Dhomas?

Let me be the first in this thread to actually reply to your post rather than picking on nits. I think you made a very good point. BB is looking for football players who are passionate about football. What better way to find them and recruit them at the same time than to get them excited about the Patriots way of playing the game?

Maybe the "D" is for his middle name.

Absolutely. BB builds elite defenses that certain players are excited to play in. These are the guys they want.

A.D. = All Day, I believe.

Ravens variation of full tilt full time, I'm guessing.

A.D.- All Day....I love it!

Didn't Carroll (sp) try to play McGinest in something like the Elephant position and it didn't work out? I feel like Adalius is a little more versatile though (I mean hes played CB!) and of course BB is a better coach. BB loves these interesting formations and positions like the old Big Nickel in 02 or the use of one lineman. I can't wait to see what he uses Thomas for.
