Making one of the boldest free agent strikes in franchise history, the Patriots [team stats] last night agreed in principle to a contract with former Baltimore Ravens linebacker Adalius Thomas.

Terms were not immediately available, but the deal is expected to include between $15 million and $20 million of guaranteed money, according to sources with knowledge of the negotiations.

Thomas was in town yesterday and has a physical scheduled for today. Assuming he passes, the deal could be announced by tonight.

The Patriots beat out the 49ers for the two-time Pro Bowler and jewel of the free agent class. The seven-year veteran is considered a prototypical fit for the Pats’ 3-4 system after playing several positions for the Ravens.

It's only not official because he is not here yet and has to have a physical. Once he does he will sign the papers. He wants to play here and we agreed to pay him what he wants. This is coming from people who obviously have talked to his agent and the agent has said this back to them.

Is Brady mainly a blocking tight end? Cause he never seems to have had a real good receiving day, and the Pats did over some money not usually reserved for a 35 year old.

Kyle Brady is a very good blocking TE with size, power and speed. Not in Daniel Grahams league...but who is?

I hope Len is hallucinating with his $10M average speculation. It wouldn't make sense with that bonus level. The earlier reports of $7.5 and $15-17M guaranteed fit and sound a lot more manageable including in the locker room.
