• Sudfeld and Boyce both played a lot more snaps than I thought, would have been nice to see them do more with their opportunities.
• We have employed a running back by committee which Bolden and Blount benefited from on Sunday, Ridley however did not, and he continued his underwhelming start to 2013.
• Says a lot about the staff’s confidence in Thompkins that he led all offensive players (other than Brady) in snaps in just his third NFL game.

• After having a really tight rotation over the first 2 games of the season Belichick opened things up and worked in some of the younger players.
• Jamie Collins saw significant reps in sub packages over both Hightower and Spikes, although they were all in the second half of the game.
• Kyle Arrington did not have a good game and saw his playing time cut basically in ahalf; according to Mike Reiss he played only 3 snaps in the second half of the game.
• Joe Vellano continues to lead all rookies in defensive snaps, with Buchanan continuing to see extensive time in pass rushing situations at right defensive end.
• We had a Jake Bequette sighting, the 90th pick in the 2012 draft played in his 3rd NFL game on Sunday with no sacks, no tackles, however he did register his first quarterback hit so things are looking up.
• Tavon Wilson continued to ride the pine on defense, entering the game not once on Sunday therefore holding strong at 1 defensive snap in 2013.

Vellano is 5th in terms of number of snaps for UDFA's in the NFL this year. That's impressive considering how well our defense has played up till now.

Obviously Thompkins is quite a long way out in front.

I thought Thompkins was almost outstanding. IIRC, there were a few miscues, but overall tremendous progress for only his 3rd game.

Dobson is coming along. I expected the passing game to get better with game film to go over.

Boyce was invisible.IIRC, Brady targeted him only once and it was INC.

The INT in the EZ was forced into Zudfield. Brady kept trying to get him the ball.

I have no doubt that by seasons end that the Pats will have a dangerous WR corp. My only concern is the rookie wall with guys like Thompkins.

Tavon Wilson is a strict special teamer where he belongs. That way he can never hurt the defense with his ineptitude.

Sucks that you have to burn a second round pick on a special teamer.

Nice to see Collins coming along and getting more & more reps. Vellano has been pretty solid for a UDFA DT.

What I'm interested in to a small extent:

Does Dobson lose playing time as we revert to a 2WR2TE package or does Hooman lose playing time as he is replaced by Gronkowski in a 3WR1TE package?

I hope for the latter, as we all should, Dobson brings a lot more potential production to the table than Hooman ever will. But, nothing is ever close to that simple with this team.

I like the fact that Belichick is giving garbage time reps to defensive backups. And yes, we were far enough ahead so that Arrington could be benched of most of the second half, after performing poorly in the first. Many of the backup reps were on the last drive (all but 2 of Bequette's).

The drop-off between KT / JE and Dobson was more than I noticed from watching the game.

Of course driven by # of 21 and 12 sets rather, but still I would (at this point with Gronk out); rather see them have Dobson out there even more.

My impression from watching game was that he was a 1st down machine (Actual 1st downs was not 100% in the game.) seemed like If he caught it they were moving the chains.

Granted a lot of them were short passes that were in the window of transition under the tampa zone (TB seemed to drop revis or the other outside cb off guys right at the 5-yd marker )- which played into pats hands a bit I think. But in game vs atl - i agree with another poster (this/other thread) who stated he can be a lot more productive than Hooman or mulligan or unnamed 2d RB.

Ridley was without question the most impressive runner in the first half, when the Tampa defense actually gave a damn.

Yes, Harmon is higher than Wilson in the depth chart. I don't think that we know much more, other than Harmon is not a starter.

Patricia does a fine job of using his top five. The only significant reps (other than garbage time) was to sit Arrington for a half as punishment for his poor first half performance.

We can HOPE that Ryan and Harmon (our #6 and #7) will provide useful reps if needed later in the season.

The rest of our secondary are special teamers (Cole, Wilson, Harmon), and should get only emergency reps as defensive backs.

My personal preference would be for Hooman to take Develin's snaps, with Gronk taking the traditional TE snaps. Sudfeld can be mixed it in the teens as he has been thus far until he shows improvement.

Except that Harmon only played a handful of snaps himself. If there were 30 snaps going to the S3 and Harmon was getting all of them, I'd say that said something about him. Right now, though I like what I have seen out of Harmon in limited snaps, it looks like they trust McCourty and Gregory and no one else at safety.

Of course Harmon is an open question, but Wilson is not, nor are the others.

IMHO, this was one of the most innovative game plans in years. We took away the run AND kept three corners on the field.

I really miss the defense of old, when we lined up with no one having their hands on the ground until the offense set.
