Patriots Workout 3; 2 TE's And A RB

worth noting on Otten:

At the Senior Bowl in late January, Otten got hit with the flu and a cut on his finger became infected all at the same time. He was forced to go to a hospital in Mobile, Alabama after the Senior Bowl’s conclusion. Otten lost nearly 30 lbs. while he was sick. He showed up at the combine at only 230 lbs., but got back up near his playing weight (242 lbs.) for his pro day in March.

Looking Beyond the Numbers: Ryan Otten | DraftBrowns.com

They can't be any worse than James Develin. I'd expect him to be the first cut to make room if a TE/RB signing is imminent.

Bryce reminds me a bit of Hernandez with his twitter posts...."Thug life"....and a whole lotta gangsta talk!....NEXT! !!! The other TE I remember got a lot of good press at draft time (believe he was ranked as high as 12 for TE prospects.....Went undrafted....maybe low weight for 6'5 guy? He might be worth a look! Never heard of the RB....will look him up....

I think Otten could be a good pick up. Was David Fales' go to guy at San Jose last year.[/QUOTE]

Matt Mulligan FTW!

Hate to say it, but Ryan Otten is a Zach Sudfeld type prospect.

I've never personally watched him, that I can remember. But it's hard to see the team give up on a guy that lit it up like that in TC and PS that quickly, even if he hasn't done much of anything useful since.

The thing about Sudfeld and Otten is when you look at their workout numbers it excites you because you scroll past all the murder charges and criminal activity articles on Google and finally get to Hernandez combine workout and you compare Otten or Sudfeld and they measure up very well in most areas. Where they don’t match up is strength which is a major problem, Hernandez threw up 30 reps at 225 Lbs. that is impressive and compensated for his lack of height or weight, Otten and Sudfeld don’t have that kind of strength so they’re not as big a matchup issue, you just put a LB on them and get physical at the line and you end up with Brady targeting them 3 times for no completions and 2 interceptions.

Don't forget that Otten was coming off a debilitating illness at the time of his pro-day. I wouldn't put any stock into his strength numbers.

I take your point though, Otten is more a finesse player running excellent routes with very good hands.

Of course they've yet to sign Otten so purely conjecture but I'd imagine Sudfeld would head to the PS. If Otten is still available, I can't see anyone picking up Sudfeld on waivers.

i could see them picking up a TE just for the PS (although Develin is a good choice to prune as well); if I remember right there is only 1 wr/te currently on the PS.

Speaking of Sudfeld, do you guys think his confidence is shot after that PS benching? Or, is this just his ceiling?

People said he would've been drafted if he weren't for his injuries, but I am starting to seriously doubt that. I mean, the guy did come from Nevada after all. I had expectations he'd be decent at least, but so far he blows. If 2 better options come along, Develin and Mulligan has Gost to go (pun intended).

Sudfield needs a year in the gym

I hear you buddy and honestly your probably the most knowledgeable posters on this board regarding prospects so I would always be inclined to agree with your assessment of a these types of players.

In terms of strength, Hernandez 30 reps at 225 Lbs. is impressive for any position and if I had to bet more than anyone in Bristol County can do :)

Too many kool-aid drinkers on this message board.

I know right. He looks like the skinniest 6'7 260 lb man I've ever seen in my life.

Yeah he looks like a really tall Wr with long hair.:D

i did not get to watch the game Sunday but I think I heard someone say that Sudfield was the reason for a Brady INT again if that it true what he needs is a new team cause I don't see Brady throwing to him anymore

Not so much. Brady actually admitted he wasn't trying to throw it to Sudfeld.

Both Dudfeld & Otten need a year on someone's PS so that they can hit the weights and be ready
for 2014. Otten has had better college production and, aside from the pre-combine infection,
better durability than Dudfeld, so he would be my choice to sign to the PS.

Bill should drop Develin & Mulligan, and sign Chris & Dan Gronk; together with Rob, they will lead
a 3-headed invasion of Patriots into Atlanta and have a GronkFest on Sunday night.
