Patriots close with Adalius Thomas
Friday Mar 2nd, 2007

The New England Patriots are very close to signing Ravens OLB Adalius Thomas, the deal could still be announced today. While not completed the number will be basically be $7.5 million per year and $17 million guaranteed. The 49ers are the only real compeition at this point, but the Patriots have his ear and shortly probably his signature to go with it

Hopefully if true, they get him to sign before he finds out what Clements got.

the opportunity to play for a guaranteed SB contender has to be worth something, once you are making multi millions a year.

Losing the AFCC game may have been a blessing in disguise. BB coaching the Pro-Bowl allowed the players to see the real BB and not the media persona. I think that will help in the future when recruiting players. It may have already helped with Thomas, we'll see.

That's easy for you to say. You haven't been in the room. How many pounds of sweat has BB lost today. :D

If the deal gets done, what an offseason so far! Then re-sign Asante and grab some LB's in the draft (Hopefully Patrick Willis), that would be TIGHT.

Sounds great.

Let's hope this isn't the high point of the offseason.

I would be delighted with a day gaining a starting OLB while losing a starting TE.

The ripple effect of a Thomas deal on the defense would be terrific. Get Vrabel and Colvin in a three-man OLB rotation. Hopefully they can find a new ILB as well, in Edwards, Napolean Harris, Peter Sirmon, or a draftee like Beason or Harris. Then it could be back to the days of Vrabel-Bruschi-Johnson-Phifer-McGinest.

Thomas can be both OLB & ILB, just like Vrabel. The options are limitless.

And we might replace one great blocking TE (Graham) with another (K. Brady).

Patriots land Thomas
Posted by John Tomase at 7:52 pm

According to a league source with knowledge of the negotiations, the Patriots are about to make the splash of free agency by agreeing to a contract with Ravens linebacker Adalius Thomas, considered one of the top players on the market.

“Thomas is done there,” said the source, a rival executive.

More coming in a moment.

More coming momentarily.
