He's supposed to be released today, or at least that's what people have been saying.

I have yet to see anything about it yet.

Actually, he was to be released on March 2nd. So that the cap hit could be spread out across 2 seasons.

Too lazy to look right now, but didn't I read here somewhere that if he lasts until tomorrow, a new bonus of somekind will kick in and increase dead cap money against the team???

No, there's unless he is getting a roster bonus, which he isn't.

If the Pats cut him tomorrow instead of today, they'll be able to spread the cap hit over 2008 too. This was a new rule under the CBA (a team can release 1 veteran per year before June 1st but with the June 1st rule applied.)

I heard it was two players but I actually just heard about this new twist in the last week so I don't know for sure:confused:

Just as lazy as you, but I don't think so, and even if there was, the Patriots would make relinquishing that bonus a condition of release before agreeing to Corey's request.

Yeah, well, a couple of members might have some stuff to report, but they seemed to have dumped it in the 4 hours for Grambo thread!!!

OK on a Jets site (the one Ian doesent like) there is this guy who goes by Bongo, he claims to be on the medical staff for the Titans, and at one time worked on the Jets staff, his rumors have been some what accurate before.

Bongo says that CD and the Pats are working on a deal but that it has apparently stalled.
Bongo says that the Pats are looking at Portis and maGahee, and that the Pats are motivated to get someone (RB) in FA.
Bongo also says the Jets are shopping Vilma, and may have a deal with the Steelers.

So blow me up. or if you want I will dig up some quotes from Bongo.

I think we can take your word for it as regardless of wether he was accurate in the past it is still rumors

(running onto the field and picking up my yellow hankie)

Thanks. Pretty interesting rumor. They may get the deal done. Corey for one more year, get some yards, pass some legends and retires. Without putting a serious thumpin on the frame. He has seen this year that BB gets these guys the reps/plays required to pass such milestones. Without sacrificing the game plan. Now if the $$$ get done, it'll happen, if not, I'm lookin' for Portis here.

Spreading-out the cap Hit is great; but what about any cap Savings?
Do I ass-u-me correctly that there will be cap savings by releasing/trading CD?
Which method would produce the greatest amount - release or trade?
What is the largest amount we could save? What is the smallest?

Inquiring minds want to know.

If we take all of the hit this year, we will save a little under $1M.

Spreading it into next year is really irrelevant, since the Pats already have a great deal of flexibility to do so.

Releasing and trading are equivalent (although I don't know if the new CBA provision about spreading out pre-June 1 releases also applies to trades, I reiterate that this is irrelevant, since the Pats have enormous flexibility in this reguard).

The Pats save $2.5 million off the 2007 cap (base salary), minus whatever his 2007 signing bonus proration was, which still counts.

Thanks.

Does Miguel's page update the pats' cap room?

Thanks.

Does Miguel's page update the pats' cap room?

Yes, it is updated right now, as Miguel applied the Dillon release sometime this past week.

espn news is reporting he has indeed been released

Awesome; I love up-to-date info.

Most sites seem to list FAs one time, then never update when someone is released. In this day & age, that's inexcusable.
