Report: Terrell Owens wants to play for Patriots | Comcast SportsNet - CSNNE.com

Terrell Owens said:
Obviously the situation with the Patriots, they are starting out with a lot of new guys. You never know how management is thinking, what their process is as far as bringing in veterans.

I understand they may look at my age as an issue but I’m not your average 39-year-old. I think if you watch me work out, I’m not really concerned about injuries or anything like that. Plus, I’ll be getting paid the vet minimum, so it’s not like I am asking for any extra incentive in my contract.

I just want to play because I know I’m still competitive. I can play at a productive level. And the thing is, the last two or three teams that I’ve played on, they brought up my age issue but there’s never really been a decline in my production. I know that there’s some character issues that teams are worried about that’s understandably noted, but I am a different person than I was 10 years ago.”

Hey Terrell, I wanna play for the Patriots too. And I was a receiver also.

NO! Just....... NO!

Take another Xanax, Terrell and a nice nap.

Sign this beast. :singing:

Yeah... no. And I don't think he can afford a Xanax at this point.

Didn't T.O. work out with Brady & Amendola At Cali before this pre season? Wonder what Brady took from it.

There was a column in the Globe today — too stupid to even mention on this board until this thread popped up — saying the Pats really should sign TO. I never even heard of the guy who wrote it. Apparently he covers ... basketball.

He did, didn't TO make comment then about wanting to play for the Pats?

When he was in Seattle he was wide open a lot that pre-season...then just dropped the ball cold, sound familiar?

Bring Moss back too. They can be bookends....

So do I...

I think he did say it and when he showed up at TB's practice I thought ok what's T.O. up to now. With Pats current injuries with receivers he probably figured it's perfect timing to hear him out.

And Michael Jordan still feels like he can play ball at 50. Doesn't make it true. The body fails long before the competitive fire dulls. He needs to find a new activity to channel that energy into.

I do feel a sense of compassion for these guys who were at the top echelon of the game for so long. They pour their entire lives into pursuing excellence such that, to some extent, football, or basketball, or whatever, is all they live for. But I digress.

T.O. its time to move on, brotha.

Seriously, aside from concerns about being a locker room poison, could he really hurt the team? If he could hold his tongue and be a positive presence...why not? We are pretty desperate.

To paraphrase his press agent, there are about 25 million reasons why this will never happen.

We have a pair of WR's who have rarely been covered at any point, their issue has been holding onto the ball, you want to add a 39 year old version of them to the team, why?

Let the rookies develop.

Gronk will be back soon, Amendola shortly after, Edelman, while not turning heads, is a trusted target. The running game will not stay derailed, everything will start clicking and this team will be back to normal.

Have some faith.

T.O. is tight-end slow these days. About a month from now the rookies will have far surpassed whatever he can offer now.

Jeez, he'd be a great mentor for Thompkins and Dobson.

BB does what is best for the team. I'm fairly certain he's aware of the injuries our WRs have and yet he hasn't brought TO in for a looksie. Chances are BB hsn't hit his threshold where that decision would benefit the team.

My sarcasm meter may be broken. If I'm dense, I apologize.

Taking you seriously, think it through.

Amendola, Gronk, and Vareen will be back at some point. Assuming the 31 other teams (including the Bills who had a looooong look at him) that passed on him were wrong (not much of a stretch for some teams:)) and he has something left, he will be needed for what, 5 weeks or so?

During that 5 weeks we will ****** the development of the rookies. Yes, it is painful, but they need reps with Brady to develop a relationship with him. And no matter how much you or I complain, the rookies will be here long term (like 2014 and beyond). T.O., being 39, will not.

All of that assumes T.O. will work for league minimum and is a great locker room guy, etc.

Oh, btw, T.O. was known for dropping passes.

I dunno what you read into my post but I didn't say I wanted him to play for Pats. I was answering a quote and my post is what T.O. might have been thinkin when showing up to Brady & Amendolas practice in Cali.
