With all the signings and potential signings Denver is going to be a big challange for us again as usual. I don't like where this is going.


NFL Network's Adam Shefter reports that Ahman Green is spending Friday visiting the Broncos.
Houston, Oakland, and Green Bay are also interested. Denver could seriously rehabilitate Green's fantasy value.

Denver could make a big splash by landing Dre Bly, Daniel Graham, and Patrick Kerney in less than a day. Kerney is expected to earn $8 million a year. They may not have the cap room to prevent him from visiting Minnesota and Seattle.

Let's see how it all shakes out. Everyone's going nuts about Dre Bly, he's replacing Darrent Williams who had become pretty good himself. With the ages of the two and Williams on the growth curve, that's basically a wash right there IMO.

Denver will probably be very good next year. The Pats need to take steps to keep up with the Broncos. Those would be 1) signing Adalius Thomas and 2) signing a high quality veteran WR (Bennett, Curtis, Stalworth, RFA Hackett). Include a few other low-priced veteran acquisitions for depth at LB and the defensive secondary, and a solid draft, and the Pats would be well placed to compete against a bulked up Broncos team.

Well, we most likely lost a key TE and a decent depth player at LB. Combine that with the fact that our aging defense is only getting older, and the Pats have got some work to do to break even themselves.

Can we please get over the Broncos as the new thing?

As has been said, they've traded for a good, although aging, CB to replace a pretty good young guy who was on his way up. The hype on the Graham signing is just that, all a bunch of talk. Nothing has happened yet. What else have they done?

People are forgetting here that the Broncos have a much further distance to go to get to the Super Bowl than the Pats. They have to add more pieces to get to be a Super Bowl contender than do the Pats.

Their defensive line is porous and they released Mike Meyers and have to find some capable and competent replacements.

And, so far, they have only done one thing, while being "on the verge" of doing a couple other (none of which are guarantees). I just don't see how a team that got to 9-7 (with luck) is on the verge of becoming the team to beat in '07 based on replacing a good corner with an aging one.

And don't give me the "they have the Pats number" nonsense when they had no business winning the game in Denver (officiating?) and were lucky to play the Pats early in the season this year.

Denver is obviously in your heads a bit because no one else even gives them a second thought. They didn't even make the playoffs. They were knocked out of the playoffs by the 49ers for Christ's sake.

while I'm not entirely convinced about Cutler either... I think with one season under his belt and time with Walker things could get better. Plus, with (potentially) Graham blocking well for them he could be dangerous. But yes I agree with the comments of wait and see.

They lost a RB that fumbled seven times last year and couldn't get on the field at the end of the year because of it. They lost a RT who had lost his job by the end of the season to Meadows/Pears (whom were filling in for Lepsis) and was hated in Denver for his hopeless play. They replaced the CB.

Nobody becomes a threat on day one of free agency though.

Broncos have been very good every year for a long while. That gives them lower draft picks. Thus they have always been busy in free agency. Just recently they have been trading their seemingly great RB's for quality starters. Their "legal" blocking schemes have produced great numbers for their RB's. This has enabled the Donkees to trade for Champ Bailey and now Dre Bly. Credit rat face for pulling the wool over most of the leagues eyes when it comes to this. Who has gotten the better out of the CB trade? Who will benefit more from the Dre Bly trade. Time will tell, but I will bet on the Broncos.

It sucks but if Cutler works out they will challenge for the SB for the immediate future. Let's hope the Pats continue to keep pace.

I guess I missed the part where Dre Bly became a big deal.

As long as they have Cutler, the broncos will need at least an average QB to get them to the next level. The broncos are the only team I can recall that changed QBs in mid season, just to fall on their face. Now that they made the change they will have to live with it. Cutler is your typical 'deer in headlights', that will never work out, they should have kept Jake at QB and made the playoffs.

Anyway, as a Patroits fan I'm happy that denver will be out of the playoff picture for the next few years.

I think you are WAY off base on Cutler.

As a ROOKIE, he finished with a 59.1% competion percentage, with 9 TDs against 5 INTs, and an 88.5 rating. That rating was actually a little bit higher than what our own Tom Brady finished with (87.9). I am, of course, not conteding that Cutler is better than Brady, but I wish to point out that he had a very good season for a rookie.

Denver made the switch because they knew they could never win with Plummer at the helm. Their belief, and I tend to share it, is that next year, Jay Cutler, with some seasoning under his belt, can be much more effective for them.
