CB Jamell Fleming is being released today (2012 - 3rd RD pick)

One fifth of the current roster isn't enough for you?

What signifcance does that particular fraction have? In today's NFL, I think having one more DB who can play in some schemes and play special teams has more utility than backups at other positions. I'd rather have a defensive back up for a while that we can stick on the practice squad as needed, because they get injured more and breaking in a DB in an emergency sucks, as we have seen many times over the years.

We have at least one less productive roster spot we could just as easily utilize putting that player on the PS for a while, IMO.

VrabelJr-
The same logic could have been used when the Steelers had no use for Mike Vrabel...but we found a use for him.
We've wasted time, draft picks, roster spots, and money on worse players.

You're comparing a player who played out his rookie deal versus a player who got cut less than two weeks into his sophomore season? Not close, sorry.

I see no downside to bringing him in and checking him out.

Any time you can upgrade the roster, you have to do it.

Absolutely agree ...

You can bring anyone in to replace the bottom guy of any unit at any time short of cap issues.

If Fleming projects to be better than the 53rd player on the roster, I think you have to bring him in.

However, it does give pause for thought why a team would jettison a Day 2 pick in only his second year.
Not sure if there was a scheme change in Arizona this year or if he just got pushed down the pecking order due to newer additions, but if the Pats thought he was interesting through the draft process, I guess they will put in a claim, even though he is likely to be claimed by another team.

Yeah; I'd be very surprised if no team before the Pats in the claiming order made one for him.

No surprise then that Jax claimed him right off the bat. Oh well. Jeremy Ebert waived
in order to make room.

see??????...that proves it...Pats sukkk

I posted earlier that Jax can have Ebert, but if he isn't re-signed to their PS, then it would
make sense that he should be brought here for at least a workout.
