CB Jamell Fleming is being released today (2012 - 3rd RD pick)

@Ethanhamm

I heard that NE was really high on him in 2012. RT @AdamSchefter: Cardinals' 2012 3rd-rd CB Jamell Fleming is being released today.

@DougKyedNESN

It wouldn't completely shock me to see the Patriots take a flyer on Jamell Fleming.

Some tweets regarding Patriots interest in Fleming.

Why would we want a player that was released after being drafted in the 3rd round only a year ago? The Cardinals have drafted incredibly well in recent years. If they don't think he's any good, they're probably right.
If he's an improvement on Cole then I am all for it. Marquice Cole has no business seeing an NFL field unless it's strictly as a Special Teams player.

Does Fleming play STs? Does he play STs well?

Otherwise, just have him in for a shadow roster look see. He'd be PS available though, so that too.

Would the Patriots consider picking him up?

He did 23 reps at the combine that’s pretty impressive for a cornerback, what exactly went wrong in Arizona; they don’t seem like a team that would be just throwing away talented players unless there was something going on.

The Cardinals do have a ton of depth at cornerback so maybe that led to some displeasure by Fleming and he was becoming a cancer in the locker room, seems like a talented player, I’d take a flyer.

As a big Sooner Fan living in Norman I have seen all this guys games. He has talent. It was raw coming out of college, but I think it might be able to be developed. I've never heard character issues. I wouldn't be disappointed if they took a chance with him. He is at least as good as Cole....maybe...

Hate for Marquise ? He seems like a good boy. He plays STs, he keeps his mouth shut, and stays out of trouble.

Is he good ? Not overly. But he is a ST player. Not the starting shutdown CB.

I think we could devote one more spot for a DB.

In the nfl.com link, Mayock mentions his ST ability; in the cbssports link, Fleming himself
mentions his ST ability.

I would absolutely place a claim for him, for both his past work on STs (does anyone recall
Cole's bonehead downing of one of Allen's punts before its second bounce?) and his potential
as our #5 CB.

Some team will probably claim him before the Pats. There had to be at least a few teams higher on the waiver priority than the Pats who had him on their board last year.

Yeah; I'd be very surprised if no team before the Pats in the claiming order made one for him.

Yeah, what the hell was that about? It seemed as though there was a lot of room left still, but I haven't rewatched the replay or anything. I do remember thinking that though.

VrabelJr-
The same logic could have been used when the Steelers had no use for Mike Vrabel...but we found a use for him.
We've wasted time, draft picks, roster spots, and money on worse players.

Unless they have some inside information on him that clearly states his heart isn't in it or has a complicated injury, I think they should put a claim in on him.

Hope we take a look

One fifth of the current roster isn't enough for you?

Considering that is 40% of the defensive roster, and our real base D has 5 DBs out of 11 players, maybe not. When you add in that at least 2 of he DBs on the roster today are there solely for special teams, I'd say sure there is room for another.
