More roster churn: PAts claim DT Chris Jones off waivers, waive OL Kline

They wanted him the last time he was on waivers.

This signing has a little bit of intrugue to me. He had a pretty productive career at Bowling Green and seemed to get better every year. He's definitely an interior rusher that applies pressure and gets after the QB. Here are his college stats:

Freshman: 29 tackles, 0 sacks
Sophomore: 39 tackles, 6 sacks
Junior: 47 tackles, 8.5 sacks
Senior: 42 tackles, 12.5 sacks (3rd in the nation)

There is no downside. This the player the patriots wanted on the 53. The 2 they wanted on the Practice Squad are on the Practice Squad. Kelly, Wilfork and the 4 young backups is certainly better than where we were 10 days ago.

Apparently Dante has chosen Barker over Kline as our 8th OL.

Hopefully, tomorrow we will add Kline to the Practice squad in place of one of the OT's.

It's either that, or trying to get a team that can win in spite of not having a Brady in 2 or 3 years.

I keep thinking Tom will play until he's 45, but with the opening of TB12 I also think even Tom is starting to think about life after football.

They have to hedge their bets either way, I guess. All I know is I REALLY pray for one more Pats SB win before TB12 retires. I feel like that would make him hard to ignore as GOAT, and as a TB fan and a Pats fan, I selfishly want that.

I'm not sure I would call the following list of defensive tackles "veterans":

Love, Kyle
Deaderick, Brandon
Brace, Ron (fat and lazy)
Pryor, Myron

Love was a starter for the patriots, and was certainly expected to be a backup in 2013. He was diagnosed with diabetes. The patriots asked him to take a year off on IR to see if he could keep in game shape and also keep his diabetes under control. Love refused. He was waived. There was never a question with regard to whether Love was good enough to be a 2013 backup for the patriots.

JAX signed Love. I haven't a clue what happened at that poor excuse of a team and coaching staff. What I do know (as you indicated) is that Love was waived. I don't care about the evaluations of the JAGs coaching staff.

With regard to having JAG's on the team, you and I understand this term very differently. JAG's are veteran backups, who can start if necessary, with no future with regard to being a star. Many are past their prime. I would WELCOME a JAG at lots of positions of the squad, especially as backup defensive players. I also would welcome a JAG OG/OC.

We all know why he was cut loose by the Patriots. The story doesn't really need to be rehashed.

The point I made was that the Jaguars cut him for performance reasons, as no mention of his condition was brought up like it was with the Patriots or any sort of special illness designation therein. Just simply released. So, if a team like the Jags, lacking in any talent/depth, cut such a player, then logically speaking the evidence shows that the Patriots made the right decision to get rid of him when they did. I mean he couldn't even crack the Jags roster of all teams. Only the Raiders and arguably the Jets have less talent than them. Kyle Love is a JAG.

As for your point about JAGs, I consider that to be anyone you could classify as being "Just A Guy." A mediocre to below average player with a limited skill set regardless of whether they're rookies or veterans. There's lots of first year JAGs in the NFL.

I like this guy for depth on field goals and occasional plays to give Wilfork or Kelly a blow. Chris Jones was the MAC Defensive Player of the year which is not something you see often from a guy who plays nose tackle in the 3-4 or DT in 4-3. He's a 6-2, 305 load who is strong enough and has some quickness.

I'm fine with the addition. I agree that we were thin at the cutdown. Maybe he'll beat out Vellano for backup rep, more likely not.

But, you exaggerate. It is not clear that Jones solves much other than being yet another young prospect, a good thing.

Belcihcik started Forston on the Practice Squad. Had he been started on the 53, there still would be the lack of a veteran backup. But the situation would be pretty much as it is now.
So, if it was "way thin" with Vellano and Forston, it is not much better with Vellano and Jones.
