At a time when the signs are pointing to the Raiders dealing receiver Randy Moss to the Packers, sources close to Moss say that another team quietly in the mix is the New England Patriots.

The Pats were rumored to be interested in Moss during the 2006 season, as the trading deadline approached.

The other team that also continues to be mentioned as a potential destination for Moss is the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The biggest impediment to a deal is a contract that is scheduled to pay Moss $9.75 million in 2007 and $11.25 million in 2008. It's tough to commit that kind of money to a guy who has disappeared over the past year or so.

I guess "where there's smoke there might be fire"?
Interesting.
I still don't believe any of these rumors. But you have to admit, the rumors just won't go away.

What do you think is more important to a guy like Moss Money or Winning?
My guess is money but If I am wrong than maybe he could fit in here.

I think it might be just winning. After being with Minnesota, then Oakland, i think its winning.

I read that too and to be honest I'm not quite sure about this either. There are two different scenerios I see IF we do aquire Moss:
1) He plays disciplined under BB in order to win a SuperBowl and stays away from trouble, negative media.
or
2) He becomes the one negative poison pill in the locker room and eventually gets cut because of attitude problems.

If the Pats do trade a 3rd round pick for him, he would almost definitely have to rework that awful contract of his.

Who knows? That guy is hard to read. Corey wanted to win, that was clear even when he was with the Bengals. Moss quit on his team. Was it the losing that made him do that or is that just how he is?

we have as much chance getting Randy Moss, as we do Adalius Thomas.. About a 10 percent chance... If do , I think he would be a super addition , and we might as well start booking plans for Arizona...

Get used to it, the Pats will be linked to EVERY WR FA this off season. BTW- If the Pats did get Moss, and he comes to spend the off season in NE, it will be a great deal. It will give us a superbowl offense for the next 2 years.

your % may be high especially for adalius.

You mean you haven't started making plans yet. I have some floor reserved at my Brothers friends house in zona that has my name all over it when the Pats make it.:rocker:

For the last 5 yrs I thought super bowl ,and only have been wrong for 3 yrs .. I think we still will go as long as BB ,Brady and Pioli are there, but the WR and LB corp needs improvement..

Okay, okay... here's what I want to know.

If Douglas Gabriel, a large receiver with lots of raw talent, flames out in the offense because he (1) isn't comfortable working with the other receivers (2) has trouble learning the offense and (3) consistently makes the wrong read on his routes, why would we pay money/draft picks for the guy Gabriel apparently patterned himself after?

Gabriel, unlike Moss, has never (1) walked off a field prior to the conclusion of a game, (2) never been a disciplinary problem on or off the field, (3) doesn't take plays off and (4) doesn't go out of his way to make his qb look bad by jumping up and down when the ball doesn't come his way, or by short-arming near-miss passes.

Moss also makes about 10 times more each year in salary than Gabriel, and Gabriel is a better blocker, in that he actually blocks downfield, and plays special teams.

Looking at all of that, where do people get the idea the Pats are interested in Moss? "Sources close to Moss" is clearly his goddamn agent, trying to make his client look less radioactive by hinting that a team that doesn't tolerate total maroons has inquired about his services.

WHO ARE YOU KIDDING ? belicheck would sooner chew off his own toes than trade for randy " i play when i want" moss !!! Yes you need wide recievers but be logical:confused:

If Doug Gabriel had the level of talent or past history as one of the best receivers in the game, I could see all of his negatives being ignored. Moss is supremely talented (or at least he was) and has proven to be the real deal in the past. If he is willing to rework his deal to make it friendly, and BB and Pioli feel that he will not be a cancer in the locker room, I don't see why he wouldn't come here for a third rounder.

Moss has proven to be the real deal in two downfield "hang 'em high and go up and get 'em" offenses. New England does not run that offense.

the salary point is valid as well as the agent point but Gabriel trying to pattern his play after moss and not working is not that valid as Moss was and maybe will be again a Pro bowler Gabriel obviosly didnt have that kind of talent.

Talent is key

EXACTLY, and this is why I think all this Moss stuff is BS. Hey we traded for Dillon when I never thought that we would so anything is possible. But this guy is a quitter. Why would the Pats bring a player like that here?

This is simply Moss agent playing off a variation of the move Drew Rosehaus invented with Willis Mcgahee and that every single agent has copied over the past few years.

The Pats are a highly successful, highly secretive organization.

What agents do is link the Pats to their player and use the "interest" as leverage with other teams. Since the Pats unlike other teams never speak publicly, the phony link is never denied.

Moss is likely being asked to renogiate by GB and Jax. This is a way to counter it and make it seem to those teams that he has another option.

Spend real money on Moss when we wouldn't on Graham, Branch, Law...etc.

No thanks.

...../sigh.......is the horse dead yet? OH...and you are wrong on Graham...read the board.

Things move fast. That and I took a 5 minute phone survey while having this thread open.

As to beating a dead horse....you can't really think the Moss to the Patriots rumors/hopes/dreams isn't the epitome of such?
