I've been seeing this posted a lot lately. "Why don't we blitz!?" "our DL is doing nothing!"

Let me just point something out to you.

CJ Spiller: 17 carries, 41 yards, 2.4 YPC
EJ Manuel 18/27, 150 yards, 5.6 YPA

The defense gave up one terrible drive to open the second half, but besides that they really dominated the entire game. The offense gave up a free TD and on another drive game the Bills a short field. EJ Manuel completed 2 NFL quality passes (both thanks to blown safety coverage) and that's about it the entire game.

To me it was clear the gameplan was to collapse the pocket, and play disciplined and defend the gaps so CJ couldn't go off for 150 yards. I think people forget how explosive this guy really is. It only takes one long breakaway run and his YPA/total yardage shoots up a ton. I think it's incredibly impressive that we held the most explosive RB in the league to 2.4 YPC.

Furthermore, why do you want to blitz and open up giant holes in coverage for a rookie QB and risk giving up a 50 yard TD when you can force him to string together long, consistent, 15 play drives in order to score?

The defense won us that game, plain and simple. Especially at the end when they forced the Bills to three and out like 3 consecutive times in the 4th to win the game.

The defense played very well, but the pass rush was lacking. I don't see why these two statements can't be true simultaneously. Aside from that, you are aware that a pass rush doesn't have to necessarily be generated by bringing in extra rushers, right?

Like I mentioned, it appeared to me that Belichick wanted them to just protect their gaps. At no point in the game except one 3rd and 15, did I think the DL was ever told to pin their ears back and attack. The gameplan was to stop Spiller- and they did that wonderfully.

I mean yes, you can theoretically protect your gap and rush the passer if you are the god of bull rushers and all four guys get a dominant bull rush every down even with the OL knowing that you're not going to try a swim move.

They had Ninkovich constantly playing contain. That was his assignment. You could tell, he wasn't trying to rush.

So, that game featured a 3 man rush for the overwhelming majority of reps.

I don't care for style points. The defense shut down and dominated one of the AFC's most explosive offenses. Anyone looking to nitpick at that find something better to do with your time.

Yes, because the Bills offense obviously isn't explosive at all. What was I thinking? I mean they obviously don't have T.J. Graham or Marquise Goodwin or Scott Chandler on their offense.

Their QB clearly isn't the superb athlete E.J. Manuel. Nope, must be someone else. Oh and C.J. Spiller, who's easily among the 5 most explosive skill position players in the entire league, clearly doesn't play for their team either.

You must suffer from memory loss because it's obvious you don't remember what the Bills offense and especially Spiller did to the Patriots last season. And that's before adding Goodwin or Manuel. Their team has a lot of guys that can take it the house on any given play. Not many teams in the AFC come even remotely close to that.

And since you'll obviously miss this point too, I'll put it in layman terms for you:
being the most explosive =/= best

the patriots did not blitz. until they do in a game, we can't say the patriots don't have a pass rush,

Spiller's longest run was 9 yards and his longest reception was 7 yards
22 touches 55 yards 2.5 yards per touch

If someone would have said that was gonna be his stat line they would have been ridiculed off the board.

If the pass rush had to suffer to contain Spiller then it worked and it was worth it.

They had 4 guys who could take something small to the house on the field together. He didn't say good. He said explosive.
No point in trying to explain the concept of explosive skill position players to people like that. They'd rather bash their heads against brick walls thinking that will get them somewhere.

I find it laughable that in this day and age we still have to explain the difference between being explosive and good to people.

My thoughts exactly.

The gameplan was extremely clear, but whiners gonna whine.

I find it laughable that you listed a bunch of players as explosive when the TE had the highest YPC of the group last season. Hell, Graham averaged 10.4 ypc last year and had only 3 20+ yard receptions out of 31 catches, or on less than 10% of his catches, which is a lower percentage than Welker. As a matter of fact, while his 20 yard + percentage was higher, Steve Johnson had fewer 20+ yard catches than Welker had, and the same number of 40+ yard catches (2) as Welker.

Newsflash: Raw speed on a 40 time doesn't make a player "explosive".

Wow. Another moronic post I see.

In case you're missing the point, you cannot use YPC and 20+ yard receptions to state whether someone is explosive or not. And if you think so then you're an even bigger idiot than you're letting on.

Just going tear your post apart because of how dumb it is. Ryan Fitzpatrick was the Bills QB last season and obviously his biggest limitation is that he doesn't possess arm strength to drive the ball down-field. Or for morons like you, that means he's not a deep ball thrower, thus his skill position players will obviously lack big plays in receptions and yards.

See how 1+1=2. Your argument was weak and ******ed from the get go and I'm shocked that you even wasted your time to type out that nonsense.

This has to be the most moronic statement I've ever heard. So if Brandon Lloyd has a higher YPC than Julio Jones does this mean Lloyd is a more explosive athlete than Jones? Only a simpleton like yourself would answer yes to this question because you're dumb enough to believe that YPC dictates who's explosive or not.

Do you even know what makes one athlete more explosive to another? Scratch that, as that is way too much for you to comprehend.

Here's a easier for you, do you even know what makes a person an athlete in the NFL?

Because in your world it's things like YPC and 20+ yard receptions, apparently.

But, in the real world (not your fantasy world) it's things like your acceleration, your speed, your quickness, your power, your leaping your ability, your strength, your size, your agility, and, wait for it...

YOUR EXPLOSIVE ABILITY.

Why you chose to bring up this illogical argument is baffling. But you can continue ignorant statements like the above until you're blue in the face. Until you actually make a logically correct statement I'm done wasting my time with a moron. So don't expect to me to respond to your next idiotic response.

Until then go have a seat in the corner. You're pressing way too hard to make yourself look dumb.

I could waste my time shredding your post line by line. Instead, however, I'll simply say this:

Chad Jackson.

My eyes have explosive diahrrea from reading this crap.

And when all of those things get you absolutely nowhere, you're still a ****ty player. And not-explosive.

If you don't make explosive plays then you're not worthy of being called an explosive player. Being fast and accelerating good doesn't do jack **** for you if you can't catch the ball or too stupid to get open to even try.

CJ Spiller is actually their only player capable of taking it to the house every time he gets the ball. Nobody else on that offense has even flashed the ability to, let alone do it on a consistent basis.

And when all of those things get you absolutely nowhere, you're still a ****ty player. And not-explosive.
What does being a sub-par player have to do with you being an explosive athlete? Are you too dunce to understand that these two things are not dependant on each other? I never said the Bills offense was good, moron. I said it had explosive skilled position players/athletes. Get that through your ******* head. It's simple. You can be one hell of an athlete in the NFL and still suck, but this doesn't change the fact that you are one hell of an athlete. What the **** is so confusing about this concept? Too hard for you brain deads to grasp?

If you don't make explosive plays then you're not worthy of being called an explosive player. Being fast and accelerating good doesn't do jack **** for you if you can't catch the ball or too stupid to get open to even try.
This statement is illogical. You're explosive because you're explosive. It doesn't have jack **** to do with whether you can football or not. That's likely saying LeBron James isn't an explosive athlete because he doesn't play football.

Layman terms for you morons: There are explosive athletes out there that don't play football or play the game and aren't very good football players. This still doesn't negate the fact that they are great athletes. Is this too much for your feeble minds to comprehend? If it is, just ask nicely and I'll break it down again for the 100th time.

What you dumbasses are basically saying is that you cannot be an explosive athlete unless you're good at the game football. Only a ******* nitwit such as yourself could walk around believing somewhat like that. You ****tards gave me a good laugh today with this pathetic logic.

CJ Spiller is actually their only player capable of taking it to the house every time he gets the ball. Nobody else on that offense has even flashed the ability to, let alone do it on a consistent basis.
T.J. Graham and Marquise Goodwin are already make this statement idiotic. Just because someone hasn't done something yet that doesn't mean they're incapable of doing it. Do you comprehend this?

The Patriots offense is one of the best in the league, but, I can guarantee you it is not because they have a lot of uber athletes at the skill positions. So therefore, we can already conclude that being explosive does not immediately equal your offense being good. It's not hard to grasp. Use your brain for once. It helps.

Getting sick and tired of these morons cherry picking statements just for the sake of argument like they actually have a logical point. Get back to me when you actually have something relevant to say. Until. keep your douchebaggery to yourself.

You'll find that forums encourage the opposite.

Spiller tore us up last year (at least in our home game against them). Jackson has torn us up in the past. The focus was on the RB's, who are up there as far as RB corps go.
