My guess is that Professor Brady and Thompkins will spend a lot quality time together in the next couple of weeks. Obviously the coaches will be working with Thompkins also.

The preseason is not for nothing. It seems that Brady had lots of chemistry with Thompkins. Thompkins has progressed muc, much more than Boyce or Dobson. The other two will get their chances, but, for now, it is time to concentrate on helping Thompkins reduce his errors. After all, we are not talking about talent or even knowing the playbook. We are talking about specific, fixable, errors.

And yes, many will tell Thompkins not to hold his head down. His production was as much as from almost any of the rookies. The key thing is that he kid needs to work hard and continue to progress. As long as this happens, there are lots of folks working with him and helping him succeed.

As frustrating it was to see his mistakes yesterday, I told my wife it's better for this to happen now then in January.

I thought most of Thompkins' problems yesterday were correctable. Many were rookie mistakes.

Practice will only get you so far.

I agree they'll spend some time together and it's up to Thompkins to process hte information for the next time. i don't think there are any bridges burned at this point and he has earned some of Brady's trust. The next few weeks will go a long way to telling us if he can play with Brady.

On the other hand, if he keeps getting mugged and the refs give him a few calls, it might go easier for him.

The fact that Brady kept going to him, despite the mistakes, says a lot. You don't see that often.

My only beef with Thompkins play yesterday had nothing to do with him making mistakes, I did not like his reaction to them, he kept looking back at Brady like why’d you do that.

Overall the errors were expected, and for what it’s worth Thompkins did not get many calls that he could of received, the refs were not giving the rookie anything.

:)

The kid is honest. He genuinely didn't know what he did wrong and why Brady didn't do what he expected. He'll learn to hide his honesty soon enough.

Fair enough, I just felt there was too much showing up going on out there yesterday, even Brady with his looks and head grabbing was not ideal, nobody’s confidence is going to grow with those being played back on film, or if they catch a glimpse of ESPN.

These are correctable issues. It is one thing to do it in practice and even preseason, once it goes live, the coverages are much more exotic and the lines are more blurred. This was a great learning experience and should help a lot going forward...oh and they won as well.

8 min into the game, already have watched Pats WR Kenbrell Thompkins run wrong way on screen, block wrong guy on run. #rookielife

Definitely correctable RT @rhettmcpeake:Is he completely lost or are these correctable mistakes?

It's his first real game.

I think the moss and welker signing spoiled our fanbase with how quickly they jelled with brady.

Not to mention they were both in the league. Thompkins wasn't even drafted!

I can't believe anyone expected Thompkins to light it up.

The dude is an undrafted rookie free agent. He made some rookie mistakes and looked overwhelmed. When playing his first game!!! Yet Brady still threw to him 14 times. Can anyone recall if Ochocinco was ever targeted 14 times by Brady? Tom obviously believes in this guy and that is good enough for me. The "this guys needs to be cut" crowd are clueless.

He will get better. Brady will make sure of it!

I think they need to dumb down the offense for the rookies until Gronk gets back because a lot of the problems was Thompkins and boyce not running there routes right,

if Boyce is in there for 15 plays IMO he should be running 10 post routes he's game is speed. and maybe run a few Quick come back route with Thompkins he's not fast but he is Quick they need to work to there strengths

With the injuries the pats have, I suspect he will be targeted another 14 or 15 times. He will get better with each game. I wouldn't be surprised if he doubled his production from the first game.

I've never seen a receiver look as bad and as completely lost as Thompkins did on Sunday. Fortunately for him Zudfeld stepped onto the field and made a bigger fool of himself. These "players" went undrafted for a reason: they are clearly NOT ready for the NFL stage. At this point of his career Brady should not have been put in this position of having to deal with so many projects.

However, I'm sure the genius has a master plan. :puke:

While I agree with your overall point, he really didn't have any other choice but to keep going to Thompkins.

On the last drive when it really mattered, he wasn't targeted once.

Hopefully they can get a chemistry going very soon, but I think Thompkins will continue to see a lot of targets and make improvements.

Unless Brady is planning to throw to Edelman everytime on thursday there is really no alternative.
