That was hard for me to watch Welker on the Broncos last night. I was kind of rooting for and against him at the same time.

My favourite non-Patriots player before he joined the Pats. But it was easier when he was on a team that weren't serious rivals.

I liked it when he was making lots of catches but still losing the game. A little later...not so much.
PS...What do you think WW's first thought in his mind after that fumble? I'd lay even money the name "Bill" was flippin around in his brain at that moment.

Hah-- pretty funny. Broncs' coaches should have one of those sticks with Belichick's face on the end, and every time Welker has a drop look at him and hold it in front of their face.

To make us feel a little better, Peter King has this:

6. Wes Welker shouldn’t be known as one of the league’s surest-handed players anymore. Hey, a great debut for Welker, all in all … nine catches, 67 yards, two touchdowns. But he dropped a punt at his four-yard line (why he’s fielding it there, who knows), leading to a simple Ravens touchdown in the first half. No cause for alarm, but as important as he is to Manning and to this offense, John Fox shouldn’t have him returning punts. Add this muff to the fact that Welker, via Pro Football Focus, led all NFL wideouts with 15 drops last year, and you start to wonder if that miss from Tom Brady in the most recent Patriot Super Bowl was really any sort of fluke.

But, yeah, I still miss him; hopefully that will go away as the Pats rack up some wins (and no, I won't measure the impact of his loss by obsessing over Amendola's stats).

By the way .. click the link to King at your own peril. Most of it is a pretty depressing assessment of how unstoppable the Broncos are.

I'm going to miss him less when my new Amendola rocks up on Sunday.

Hopefully a lot less.

I felt nothing.

Remember to knock on wood when you type things like that;)

I enjoyed seeing Wes run his routes with the same quick elusiveness he showed here. He has yet to lose a step. I was rooting for him to roast the Ratbirds.

Yes, I snickered when he dropped the punt though, but I wish him well in Denver this fall. Not well in Foxboro or this winter.

He will be sorely missed by me- whatever his attitude may have been, he still is one of the toughest football player I have ever seen. He runs every route as if it were his last.

I only have one fond memory of a Wes play--the 3rd down conversion in the 2007 Colts game, followed by his f-bomb.

As far as memorable, impact plays, he was no Troy Brown, that's for sure.

Ugh, I thought I was over the loss of Welker. But it was really tough seeing him last night.

I don't remember it being so tough to watch when guys like Seymour, or Branch, or McGinest, Vrabel or Lawyer left for a new team. Maybe Vinateri, I guess. But kicker is not such a constant factor as wr.

That Broncos offense looks record-breaking good. And I don't think Balt's D is that bad either. They just looked it b/c Denver is so good.

I hope, for the sake of Pats fans everywhere, that Amendola shakes the injury bug. Welker looked like vintage welker yesterday. The worst part is that it gives Manning a huge outlet on third downs. Between him and their two WRs, that is a scary looking offense.

See, I think it's kind of the opposite. Though Denver's offense is no doubt going to be great, I think they looked much better because the Ravens starting safeties were Huff and Ihedigbo... Baltimore is NOT the same without Ray Lewis and Ed Reed.

Sadly, PJ, Wax Wikler doesn't miss YOU one bit. When he gave his bonehead agent carte blanche to grab the most $$$ from whomever/however, he made that quite clear. Unfortunately for Wax, his agent misread the market and got him the second-best deal. Now he's an extension of The Forehead, and someone I'm actively rooting AGAINST.

last night after the muffed punt i tweeted:

"Wes welker, Earning that extra 500k he took to leave the pats"

Denver looked thrilled to pony up 500k more than NE. The real debate is...In what week will Welker surpass his season high 9 TDs? (2011)
Without much a running game, Manning looks to be a chuckin fool and WW will get his 10th TD in week 13

Painful to watch him as a Donkey. I even felt a little bad for him muffing that punt. He was a heckuva Patriot... but now the laundry has changed. Too bad.

I saw the good and the bad.

the good:
the dude gets open, regularly
He is still quick as can be in small spaces

the bad:
dropped punt
dropped pass
another dropped pass that was incorrectly ruled a catch
