Dez Bryant vs Devin McCourty

I see the name Dez Bryant and I think ticking time bomb.

He's talented for sure but at some stage its going to get messy.

Talent-wise, Dez Bryant is the superior of the two.

McCourty is the better fit for the Patriots' team at this point. And as a fan, I am happy he's where he is at, and I wouldn't trade him for Bryant.

I think both players have been great til this point. I do think Bryant an elite WR, but McCourty is a versatile player who's already been a pro bowl CB, and looks like he can be an elite safety. Him moving to safety is what really helped the secondary.

To date, Devin McCourty has been a better player than Dez Bryant in the NFL. That may change in the coming seasons, but a fully fit McCourty is more important to the Patriots than Dez Bryant. Therefore, Devin McCourty.

For me it is an easy choice Devin filled a hole instantly had a pro bowl rookie year a poor second year but has been strong since. He has been strong at FS and maybe top 5 by the end of this year if its a strong year.

Dez Bryant is a great WR but he would struggle with our system if he wasn't on the same page as Brady he wouldn't see the field. We would not change our scheme for him brady would most likely not throw him if he was covered the same way romo does.

If we drafted Bryant we would have been talking about a bust. Coaches and scheme make players look better draft picks would all be different players if drafted by another team.

OP,
Anybody who says they would prefer McCourty over Dez Bryant is simply looking through their rose colored glasses.......in my opinion. It's a no brainer. Dez is probably the 2nd best WR in the NFL behind C. Johnson. McCourty is a nice player but certainly not a star. Teams don't game plan for McCourty, that's for sure and they sure as hell game plan for Dez.

I said it at the time - Dez Bryant might thrive in a system that has a simplified offense where he can run simple routes and doesn't have a lot of presnap reads, but he would sink in the Pats' offense because it is too complicated. My opinion hasn't changed.

And let's pump the breaks a little. Yes, Bryant had a great year last year, but that was because he was on 24 hour lockdown (literally) with around the clock bodyguards to protect him from himself. How long will he foot the bill to provide this type of security for himself and how fast will he fall into his old behavior when he no longer has around the clock babysitters?

Bryant was injury prone and a head ache far bigger than his talents his first two years. He went to extreme measures last year and it paid off. But Bryant is still the same ticking time bomb that could go off at any time and he is a poor system fit for the Pats.

And by the way, McCourty wasn't demoted. Belichick loves the guy. In fact, I think Belichick sees this as a promotion trying to turn him into the next Rodney Harrison as the QB of the secondary. I still think Belichick values safeties more than CBs.

Dez Bryant is an idiot. Idiots tend not to thrive in the Ehrhardt-Perkins. McCourty is one of the better FS's in the AFC. So McCourty for me.

Dez is a beast but not sure how his personality would fit here. He might also have a tough time picking up the playbook. I'd rather go McCourty because this team has had a harder time finding quality DB's than offensive weapons.

Both AJ Green and Larry Fitzgerald are in hysterics right now, whilst DeMaryius Thomas, Brandon Marshall and Julio Jones are having a right old chuckle.

Give it up.

Actually, I'm in hysterics.

1. The first three years, McCourty has by far been the better player.
2. McCourty is a top 5 safety and top 10 CB
3. Bryant is a top 10 WR
4. Top end WR is more important than top end DB
5. McCourty is a team leader and high IQ guy
6. Dez is a punk and imbecile

Madden-wise, it's a no brainer. But since this is real life, it's a lot harder. I can't really fault anyone either way, but just as a pure player Dez is clearly the guy to have going forward. WR is just so much more valuable than any DB. McCourty's intangibles (and Dez's lack there of) are the only thing that make this a 50-50 IMO.

McCourty, every single time without even a second thought.

McCourty as a rookie at CB: One of the best in the league
McCourty year 2 at CB: Some struggles but a lot can be put down to terrible Safety play, shock horror when he moved to Safety...the Safety play got much better
McCourty year 3: Started pretty well at CB (<40% completion when targeted) but once again terrible Safety play + Dennard showing up meant he could move back to Safety where FO had him rated as the best at the position in coverage and where he is one of the leagues best with the eye test.

Dez Bryant is dumb, a ticking time bomb and has had 1 season of note. Top 2 in the league...have we had an invasion of Cowboys fans on here?

I'd also take a quality DB over a quality WR too, especially in New England where a receiver with less quality who is smart and knows the playbook will be much better than an athletically gifted receiver who is too dumb to learn the playbook and read defenses. Not to mention Brady is here to elevate WR play if they can gain his trust.

Dez Bryant is a physical WR who can run like the wind. The guy is a seriously gifted WR, the sky is the limit for that guy. Anybody who has watched him play knows this. However, he is a mess in the locker room. All those complaining about Hernandez should look at Bryant and say no way do I want that guy on my team.

Congratulations. I will consult your comprehensive list next time I am giving my opinion on "DOSE" WR's and "THERE" stats.

Nah. Elite WRs are overrated. It's McCourty by a comfortable margin.
