Pats claim LB Chris White from Lions and cut CB Marquice Cole

Chris White is the guy the Bills traded to Detroit last week to get QB Thad Lewis.

Outside of that, know nothing about him!

Good call on Cole...

I crack myself up...

Can't imagine White is very good since his trade value was Thad Lewis. Also, keeping 4 CB (5 counting McCourty) must mean they're confident about Dennard's availability.

I'm guessing the Patriots liked what they saw from him last year on specials teams from the Bills.

This is his third team in a week.

Primarily a ST player in Buffalo. He may remember a few things about Buffalo's defense as we head into Week 1.

So much for Dowling OR Cole discussion.

Well that's the first step at least in getting rid of Cole. Now let's hope there's legit help available for depth.

My grandma is available. She'll be an upgrade.

I was bummed when Dowling's health made him expendable. But Cole healthy or not is terrible. I saw how one of the Globe Mediots said he had a great game making 6 tackles; but they all came after he was beaten and badly, or after a RB had gained 5 + yards. His "spectacular" play was batting down a pass thrown 5 yards behind the WR, where once again he was badly beaten.

I respect his ST contributions but he has to be the worst defender, either starter or reserve on the Team.

Now we have to pick up another CB or maybe 2.

Surprised we did not add a DB. With Dennard facing a possible suspension after his couort date next week CB looking thin and perhaps an injury away from a safety tandem of Gregory and Harmon/Wilson.

Cole blows as a corner. He was getting torched by third stringers. I don't know how anyone could be comfortable with him on the field on defense under any circumstances.

The ST-only purge continues. There's only two spots for ST-only guys, and it would seem those spots are for Slater and Ebner. You gotta do more than just play ST.

That is what I have been saying for some time now, to lots of derision. The days of ST-only guys are dying. With the Pats, the rebuilding it reaching that far down into the roster. I suspect that Tarp who was the only such player on the KO, KR and PR teams may go PS, or Shadow Roster for a while before being recalled for some ST play.

Cole was lousy as a corner, no question. Given the current DB listings and the weakness after Talib/Dennard/Arrington, though, I have to wonder who's coming in to replace him. There are some veterans out there who should already have been called in for a visit.

I'm thinking the same thing. 4 corners is a bit thin there; I realize that McCourty can move over there in a pinch but that weakens the safety position. Gotta be someone else coming in for a look.

Agreed, I could care less about the loss of Cole in terms of CB depth, I saw him as a very good special team’s player however. If I had to guess Cole’s exit was delayed solely until they had Justin Green onboard for the practice squad that likely gave them the confidence to move away from Cole.

Regarding the move to claim Chis White I actually think it is a nice little pickup, he could probably pass for Niko Koutouvides little brother, so I am assuming bringing him in was an attempt to upgrade Niko’s role last year with a younger slightly more athletic player.

Then the league will be setting a precedent. I couldn't find any examples of someone violating probation with a first time DUI charge and being suspended.

But I did see Ahmad Bradshaw in '08 served 30 days for violating probation and was not suspended by the league.

Furthermore, if he is found to have violated probation for the DUI then I don't see them doing anything because normally first time DUI offenders are not suspended by the league.

DUIs don't fall under the personal-conduct policy. Drunk driving gets processed under the substance-abuse policy. And the substance-abuse policy provides that, ordinarily, a player will only be fined for a first-offense DUI.
That's from Florio. I know he is hack but rules wise I think he is knowledgeable.

If Lord Goodell and the NFL do hit him with a suspension, I would expect an appeal. The first thing that would be brought up by Dennard's representation is that the NFL is really suspending him because they had no legal standing to suspend him for something he did before he was in the league and this was the opportunity to do so and the precedents already set would point to Dennard only seeing a fine and no suspension.
