What would you be the most surprised to see as a position taken by the Patriots with their 2 first round picks of the draft?

Defensive end. I think the Patriots are going to sign Adalius Thomas. I don't really see them taking a WR in round one either. Pats need serious help in secondary and LB

Adalius will be going to 49ers at least a 90% probability it happens IMO..The niners have 34M in cap room..too much difference for Pats to outbid unless the Niners somehow see another FA that they want to sign to big dollars as well,Otherwise we are up against a mightier team in the cap dept and don't see it happening.

From what I see the 49ers are desperate to get some of that charisma back from the 1980s again and start winning like they did then...and they want to get it done FAST,Adding Adalius is one of the ways to improve your chances.

From what I hear the Bears have Briggs set but somehow nothing is etched in stone there and for the right offer reports say the Bears may still think about giving him up....That to me is a better chance happening than BB to overspend on Thomas

briggs has said he doesnt want to play in a 3-4 he also wants to be paid more than brian urlacher, he is also undersized for a 3-4 lb and is a product of the tampa 2. so id say there is a lot better chance they overspend on a thomas because he is a perfect fit for the ne defense

This thread has given me the best Google ads yet:

One for stockmarket tips (picks), one for locksmiths (picks), one for cooling tower repairs (draft) and one for air circulating cooker hoods (draft). Awesome!

Oh, and to answer your question:

1. Quarterback

2. Linebacker. I have learned to expect the unexpected. That would really fool me!

It certainly would be unexpected.

But your answer number one got me round to thinking about when the right time would be to draft a QB relatively high. BB and SP have shown that anybody and everybody is more or less expendable.

Supposing a Brady Quinn type was available in the 2010 draft when Tom is in his tenth year as a pro the last year of his current deal. Would that be the time. Or 2009 perhaps?

I appreciate this is highly premature, but at some point you have to plan the succession.

The two that would shock me would be OL and QB, other than that there is little that would surprise me in this draft.. dependent on who is available, never can have enough DE's, LB's, CB's or safeties

Both teams can afford him. The 5m difference only comes into play if the 49'ers offer him a 135m deal over 4 years. Then yes, the patriots can't possibly match that. Adalius might want to come to a winning organization as well. I think the deal is going to happen.

Offensive Line and tight end

Tight End got my vote.

A tie between QB and Offensive Tackle.

But of this list, D-lineman unless it is a tweener with OLB aspirations.

A Brady Quinn player? One who is vastly overrated, and loses every big game he plays? Nah. I'll pass.

I'd be very surprised if we drafted a Centre or Tight End with the first two picks. I love Dan Koppen, who really anchors the line, IMHO. I could see us drafting a guard (I'm not 100% sold on Steve Neal) or Tackle, if a real stud falls.
I agree with Ironwasp that a QB could be drafted; if they see someone who could back up Tom for three or four years, and then compete for the starting job, I could see them taking him.
Linebacker, receiver, Running Back and secondary would be no surprise for me. Another 300lb DL would be slightly surprising.

your dreaming, the pats arent going to be in a bidding war with anyone, why do you think they change their philosophy?

Have you ever considered that the 49ers are about to become a winning organization? They have 8 picks in the first 4 rounds, a stud QB and TE ( who has more upside than Watson, Mills and Thomas combined) and don't have to face the Chargers, Patriots, Ravens or Colts until the Super Bowl - and only pull off one upset, not two as we found out this year, is hard to do. I'd bet that the 49ers are championship game caliber next year and top end team for the 2008 thru 2011. Have you seen Frank Gore run? He will probably rival LJ and LT as one of the top 3 backs next year. Be bullish on the Niners. And they can probably convince Adalius the same.

I think the 49ers are on their way and would not be surprised to see them as division winners in 2008 but this year continues the rebuilding stage....Look for them to go about 8-8 or 9-7 this upcoming season...then improving in 2008....Of course that depends on this draft and FA to go successful for them to make it happen,A. Thomas is a start to becoming a good team if they sign him.

I was just talking about how I think the 49ers are a team on the rise. I say this mostly because I think Gore is a beast. I read somewhere that they are 25-1 to win the NFC championship and I think I am going to put 20 on it and hope. While I dont really think they will win the NFC it is the NFC so anyone could win it (Da bears did it) and as I said I think the 49ers are on the rise I am willing to take my chances on those odds.

You forgot to put tight end in your poll. :)

How come you have Chad Jackson in his Florida uniform as a signature? Was it too hard to find a picture of CJ as a Pat with the ball in his hands?
