So please excuse the double post

ugh
as much as i love the sox
baseball pisses me off so much sometimes

maybe this was news 4 years ago. All that I care is that he hits his 40+ homers and knocks in his 130+ RBIs.

at least his grandmother didn't die (again).

My feelings also.. on one hand kinda pissed, but on the other if he hits 40/130 who cares..

It's a catch 22. On the one hand, his production is tough to throw away on account of his antics, but at the same time, you want to just biitch slap him, and kick his azz out the door.

i agree this is old news.and i don't think there is much they can do about it anyway .if they could trade him for 95 cents on the dollar fine but it doesn't seem other teams were willing to go for it.the sox are just going to have to live with Manny's many quirks and his 35 plus hr and 130 rbi another two years.

Today it is being reported that he is attending an auto auction in Atlantic City, does this change anyone's mind??

I found his car on the auction dealer's site:

It's coincidentally followed by a Rolls Royce signed by former Yankee greats.

If you actually click on the link in their listing for Manny's car the wrong image comes up.

I'll never understand how little other teams offer for Manny. It obviously means that either I greatly underestimate the old baseball values of running down to first and never taking a day off (i don't know how Manny has never been in trouble with the law yet is viewed as a more questionable character guy than many who have) or teams are trying to rip off the Sox. I guess the other option is that the Sox are asking too much.

then again, when we've known what the potential deals were the Sox were never being silly. the dodgers wouldn't give up a couple young guys they aren't even playing. the angels wouldn't part with ervin sanatana. the orioles wouldn't do tejada-for-manny straight up (manny is inarguably a better hitter, while tejada's advantage (defense) has been declining as he ages.

I guess a guy who hits for average and power and draws a lot of walks and will go down as an all-time great offensive player just isn't worth that much to other teams. fine, i'm happy to have him still in Boston.

Nothing about Manny phases me anymore. I just don't care what he does as long as he hits.

It's stuff like this that makes me like Manny more. The fact that he can get everyone so uptight and pissed off because he'll be 2 days late for group exercises is priceless. As long as he shows up in shape and ready to play why would anyone give a crap if hes late?

Honestly, if Mike Lowell planned on showing up March 1st because he wanted to attend a car show would anyone really care? It would be a complete non-issue.

...As long as he shows up in shape and ready to play why would anyone give a crap if hes late?...

You feel that way because the Sox have worked hard to minimize the damage Manny's attitude does, not because his attitude has done no damage. Keep in mind that no matter what time he was asked to show up, a reason to be late would pop up.

I really don't care so long as he hits .300+ 40+ 100+ as he ahs now for most of his career. Plus, his off-season workout is supposed to be above-average and he shows up in good shape anyway.

Thats not why I feel that way at all. If the team is really so distraught that Manny will be two days late to practice then they need to get over it and realize how insignificant an issue it is. And why hasn't anyone come out to say they dissaprove of Manny being late? Varitek and Lowell said that being late to ST isn't a huge deal, but they both implied the car show would have been. So if they were willing to imply that they don't like the car show but not him arriving late than its not an issue.

And this is the second time hes been late to ST. How does that translate to he'd always find a reason to be late?

Well, here's there now, so it's a moot point.

But my question is, why does he always show up looking like he walked in from a homeless shelter?! In all honesty, I could give a sh!t, so long as he's in shape and swinging the bat, but you gotta wonder if he peeks in the mirror more than once a week. . .

Manny showed up at training camp on 2/27/07. He was at home taking care of his mom. The sports person on the news channel that my dad watches said that he might showed up early but I think that he came late.

Manny is a great hitter. He could be a great player if he had a better attitude played better on D and used his brain when running the bases.

Manny is the only player on the Sox right now that is going to the Hall of Fame. I think that would make him the best player on the team as well as a great player.
