He's someone in the media who decided he needed to get his name out there so he made some idiotic comments because he knew that if he did, people would talk about him on internet forums and in the media it is far better for people to talk about what an idiot you are (because that generates hits for your report) than to simply ignore you.

Really? I feel the exact opposite. BB is protecting the team. Reporters today aren't like the ones of 50 years ago who have integrity and live by the journalistic code. Today anyone and everyone wants to be famous quick. They will quote you out of context to incite reaction.

BB is consistently an a-hole for a reason. Never give them an opening to attack the team. Actually, BB is not an a-hole to all reporters. Those who have earned his trust, he is very civil with.

The media nowadays want to build you up and then watch you crumble. Why? Because they can sell the news. The media is not your friend. Individual reporters could be. But as a whole, they do whatever it takes to sell. Look at CNN posting front page news about Miley freaking Cyrus. Look me in the eye and tell me that that is the most important story in the world today. Holy moly.

It's football not civic outreach.

BB should be focused on winning games, and he is. Being accommodating to the media accomplishes nothing that will help with the product on the field and can only come back to bite him in the ass.

Also, nothing - and I mean nothing - is done needlessly by Belichick. By all accounts from those who know the man he has carefully crafted his media persona and it is not because he wants to antagonize reporters it's because he doesn't want the media causing distractions.

A jerk? He answers a question and in doing so doesn't give the answer the media wants so they continue to ask the same question over and over again, like a little kid begging their parents to change their answer to yes. And BB is the jerk in that situation?

BB's only responsibility to the fans is to field a competitive football team. He goes beyond that and fields a winning team year after year with a chance to compete for a SB. Part of that obligation is to not give out information that can help the opponent(s) in any way. And many times the information the fans want to know and the information the opponents want to know are one in the same. Therefore when he is being a "jerk" he is fullfilling his obligation to the fans. Now when the media asks about football strategy/history questions he lights up and gives in depth informative answers.

He's never had a Denny Green or Jim Mora type meltdown or a rant like dip**** in Jets land. Nope he reacts to every reporters question in the same boring monotone way. And every once in a while he reminds the "experts" that they really don't know what they are talking about with a subtle tweek in the same monotone voice. Yet, he receives more personal attacks in the media than any other coach in sports. And the same media expects him to be perky when he talks to them and they come with a "how dare he" attitude to his press conferance.

**** the media and their self righteous bull****. Where is there criticsm of Thomase and those of his ilk? They are silent when it comes to their own. And my favorite media tactic, conjure up a term or expectations *cough* Patriot way *cough* and then rip BB and the franchise for failing to live up to a set of expectations, in my example a complete fallacy, that they (the media) created.

Nothing is ever allowed to be a distraction. Major issues are met with a statement and its left at that. Everything is positive towards an opponent and most individual questions are brought back into a team perspective.
