Denver Broncos fan petitions NFL to remove Joe Flacco banner from Mile High | Audibles - SI.com

I would be P.O.'d too if I was a Denver fan. Can you imagine if they were opening the season at Foxboro and hung this banner on Gillette? WTF? I remember the flack when the schedule was coming out that the Baltimore Orioles refused to move a baseball game scheduled for next Thursday evening as the reason the Ravens had to open on the road. Well, the Orioles are out of it (the World Series race), and so apparently is the NFL (their minds). Discuss.

Yeah but unfortunately, there's a super important, fun, and ultra exciting baseball game being played in Maryland that day.

Not words you see lumped together very often

Agree with everything except that the Orioles are out of the World Series race. They are right in the Wild Card Race, 2.5 games out, and within sight of the AL East division race, 5.5 games out.

I don't recall but is it a logistics reason (ie parking) that they can't have the game in BAL? If not, the NFL should have said eff you to MLB and had the game at the same time. I'm sure it would be Camden yards that's closer to empty than M & T Bank stadium, if its still called that.

It's BS, but LMAO, it's fun to imagine all the infuriated Broncos fans.

Parking and transportation. The stadiums are very close to one another. I hate both teams, but screw the Ravens. I don't blame the Orioles. It was a perfect example of the almighty NFL believing that every other entity in the world should be unquestionably subservient to them. Elitist bastards...

That's just one more reason to have your own field and not share one, I would be very mad if the patriots still played at Fenway and they could not raise a banner because the red sox have a game. Just because it's the ravens I really don't care where they raise the banner as long as its not at gillette.

They have separate stadiums.

As I said at the time, they couldn't reschedule the baseball game until Noon or 1:00 pm?

The Orioles look petty for not being more flexible. Despite the experiences we've had locally with all four sports over the past dozen years, championships just don't come around all that often. The community should be allowed to celebrate.

It's Baltimore...home to millions of Baltimorons...SSDD

MLB has some rule about playing early 1:00 pm games the day after a night game in a different city the previous night.

The O's are in Cleveland the night before, and the White Sox are in NY. I think Selig might have been able to make an exception, but apparently the league and the White Sox were about as interested in moving the game as the O's apparently were (which is to say, not at all).

The most likely solution would have been to cancel the game that day and cram in a double header that weekend, but then I think the teams were whining about messing up their starting rotation down the stretch.

Frankly, I liked Rex Ryan's suggestion the best, which is the O's fall on the sword and agree to play an extra away game at Chicago in June. But perhaps the White Sox division opponents (and others) might have griped about that miniscule extra advantage given to the White Sox in getting 82 home games.

It was a debacle, from beginning to end. But not as much of a debacle as the NFL inanely putting 40 ft. Flacco banners on Sports Authority Field in Denver.

The city of Denver's mood swings revolve around the Bronco's ... it's all they have ... this is funny.

Crass maneuver by the NFL. If that abomination was hanging on Gillette I'd find a way to sabotage it. A few paint-filled balloons might do the trick.

yeah...heh...and, uh...what do you think would happen if they put a banner of the Omissioner?...now THAT is almost too terrible to ponder

I can't imagine any reason for such a thing. It would smack of fascism.

Or, the Ravens could have played at noon or 1:00 pm...
