Buffalo Bills QB Kevin Kolb's concussion feared "career-ending"

re: Buffalo Bills QB Kevin Kolb's concussion feared "career-ending"

Not the way you want to see anybody's career end, but that's as good of a reason as any. I still don't know what the hell Austin Collie is doing out there. He caught a pass and lowered his helmet last night and I cringed. Collinsworth did too. That man is going to be drooling on himself and filling his diapers in a wheelchair by the time he hits his mid-50's.

Are the Bills going to be able to field a Team against us? Who's their QB again?

And that's the problem, you know? Sometimes it's the guys you DON'T know, or know the least about who can come in and hurt you.

Gonna be an interesting set of games this year, for sure. :rocker:

It mystifies me why modern sports science can't come up with a head/neck/jaw protection system that minimizes concussion risk.

Part of that is that the NFLPA is asleep at the wheel on this issue. The league and the union both have a ton of incentive to work together on this, and they could make a significant dent in the concussion epidemic by mandating the use of mouthguards and modern helmets. But for whatever stupid reason, the players just don't want that. It's pretty ridiculous.

Yes, there's still a ton of ongoing work going into the minimization of concussion risk (a lot of it is being done by the military, and I believe the NFL is working in tandem with them on some of it), but there's still a ton of low-hanging fruit that hasn't even been touched, and that's existing technology that NFL players just don't feel like using.

had 2 previous major concussions before 2011. Last one had symptoms lasting 5-6 months i think.

He is done

Time to hang it up. My son's friend had a bunch in high school and it has ruined his life. He is 19 now. The lights are on and nobody's home. Poor kid. It has totally changed him.

you never want to see this happen.

My wishes are that he has a speedy recovery and hope that he can have a happy life.

That kind of thing is sad. In my day (and probably even today) it was more drugs than concussions.

As for Kolb -- the day may come that it's a good choice to fight through something like this, but today is not that day. He's made some money and started in some NFL games, but now it's time to move on.

And by the way -- I just checked Wikipedia, and it was a concussion that knocked him out when Michael Vick got his job.

Jeff Tuel.

He will be the first undrafted rookie QB in the common draft era (since 1967) to start a season opener when he starts Week One for the Bills.

My son suffered a severe concussion due to an IED attack in Afghanistan. That was almost three years ago, but he still has problems with short-term memory, though his long term is fine. The docs say he'll probably be like that the rest of his life.

Kolb really needs to have his agent, the team doc, and anyone else who cares about him have a candid discussion about this situation. Whether he wants to keep playing or not is still up to him, but whether any team will hire him after this is the real question.
