As team make their 2013 roster cuts please post any players we that the Patriots could have an interest in so we can discuss. I view our biggest need as defensive tackle; however I’m sure we have other needs that could potentially be addressed with player(s) cut during this period.

Some names I have seen so far are:

DB – Tom Zbikowski
DB – Derrick Martin (12’ Patriots player)
WR – Devin Aromashodu
TE – Visanthe Shiancoe (12’ Patriots player)
KR – Josh Cribbs

I know we had some interest in Cribbs during the offseason, so maybe given Washington has been less than impressive we’d give him a look. Another notable transaction is the Detriot Lions waived John Drew injured and he has since been added to injured reserve.

Cribb's knee is shot. That is why the Raiders cut him.

The Eagles cut Kenny Phillips. He would be my #1 priority of the cuts thus far. The guy is a very good safety when healthy, but health is always an issue with him.

Would be hard to squeeze him in but would def be worth a look. Can never have enough quality DBs.

From your lips to BBs ears.
This is the player I believe we would of targeted with the pick stole from Baddell.
So it be sweet to land him and see him be productive.

Yeah, I'll pile on the Kenny Phillips train.

Health is obviously an issue, but it isn't like our other Safeties are tearing up the league either.

Tom Zbikowski - no thanks

Josh Cribbs - knees shot

It sounds like the issue with Phillips isn't as much that he can't stay on the field (with is also an issue), but rather that the injuries are starting to affect his physical abilities. A safety that is healthy for 8 games has value, but a slow safety that is only healthy for 8 games doesn't have nearly as much.

Not really. I can think of quite a few players on the roster that I would cut in order to bring in Kenny Phillips. When healthy, he's an instant upgrade to any safety we have currently aside from McCourty.

Zbikowski piques my interest. I hope he's not dealing with an injury. Kenny Phillips is interesting. But A) As previously stated, he's kinda injury prone, and B) When healthy, he's a bit too much like McCourty. So somewhat redundant.

Phillips is better in coverage than Adrian and Tavon Wilson. He's a better tackler than Gregory. I'd add him in a second. Two safeties with range would be a welcome sight.

Makes me wonder why Philly cut him but, do we carry 5 safeties or do one of the wilson's get cut?

I'm not sure about Phillips. He was signed on a one year prove it deal to a team with Patrick Chung as a starting safety. He so clearly failed to "prove it" that he didn't make it past the first round of cuts. Doesn't sound like Phillips is likely to be able to produce much of anything this year.

Phillips has been dealing with a quad injury. If there's any reason beyond that, I'm sorry that I can't help you with it.

Philly reporter takes about Phillips:

Eagles were willing to pay 150 grand to see if they could steal a playmaker on the open market. Instead, they got O.J. Atogwe 2.0.

The move is hardly a surprise. Had Phillips survived final roster cuts next week, the Eagles would have had to pay him $1 million and guarantee his base salary of $850,000 as a vested veteran...Despite starting 41 games and winning a Super Bowl ring during his stay with the Giants and despite the Eagles’ weakness in the secondary, Phillips’ health issues were just too big, and the Eagles finally pulled the plug on the low-risk experiment.

Even when he played, Phillips looked limited.

Eagles release safety Kenny Phillips; Also cut Chaney

Phillips missed past two games, couldn't stay healthy. The idea of him > what was left of him. It was like O.J. Atogwe all over again.

Raiders cut WRs Josh Cribbs and Sam MacGuffie. Michigan fans have blocked the "MacGuffie" era

I could see McGuffie interesting BB. We had him in on a pre-draft visit and check out his pro-day numbers:

4.36 40
42" Vert
6.57 3-cone

All that needs to be said is that Kenny Phillips got cut by a team that's going to start Patrick Chung at safety.

Kenny Phillips...rings a bell...he was the Giants safety in on the play in a certain game where Welker dropped the ball

He must be more injured than what had previously been reported, then. That's too bad because this team could really use another safety.
