RFA Ernest Wilford

With the FA class being thin at WR I was wondering if anyone would be willing to give up a four for Ernest Wilford who is a RFA who was drafted in round four by the Jaguars. He is a big reciever with decent numbers. I am not sure wether the Jaguars are prepared to let him go. Does anyone know wether they have been talking about resigning him or matching his offers.

He is 6-4 218lbs and he averaged 38 catches for 600 yards the last two years.

I don't know much about him, other than that he is TMQ's son's favorite receiver.

He doesn't seem like a fit, based on the types of player's the Pats have targeted as receivers. One scouting report (http://www.tsn.ca/nfl/teams/players/bio/?id=7268&hubname=nfl-jaguars) says he doesn't have exceptional speed and is not crisp with his routes. He is a good blocker, though, and for a fourth round pick he would be relatively cheap (assuming they don't give up much by the way of a contract). It's interesting and a possibility.

Wilford is not a FA, he is RFA. There is no need to give up anything for him. This is a deep draft and BB can make gold out of a 4th round pick. Does Asante ring a bell?

how did Chad Jackson work out last year (not that im giving up on chad jack).

I agree we should get a rookie as well but I dont want to have to rely on the rookie so adding a FA evan an RFA would ease my tension over the position.

There would be virtually no difference between a rookie and wilford picking up the offense. Do you not understand the value of a 4th round draft pick? You don't throw them away for an underachieving WR that has done nothing to show he is anything more than a 3-4 WR while he has been in the league. Heck, we gave a 5 for Gabriel and he had more upside then Wilford. If wilford was a FA, then sure bring him in at a vet min, but heck no to giving up a #4 pick. Heck no.

not sure what makes you say that Gabriel had more upside. I understand there is value in a fourth round pick but we might end up with a couple of them following the compensatory picks and with the multitude of picks that we have we may not use them all ne way.

Ernest Wilford is an intriguing option. He could certainly develop into much better than a #4 WR. I like the guy. What would the compensation be?

I would much rather go after Drew Bennett instead. Would fit nicely for us, I think. Now if we can sign him in March? That will probably be very difficult.

This is 100% false. Outside rare maybe-one-a-year exceptions, rookie WRs are notioriously slowstarters when it comes to the NFL.

And last year alone showed how productive vet WRs can be changing teams. Javon Walker, Stallworth (when healthy), Antonio Bryant, TO, not to mention our own Caldwell all had success with new teams.

That said, I agree, Wilford's upside at this point is a #2, more realistically a #3, and we have enough of those. Intriguing maybe as an UFA, but not RFA.

see Reche Caldwell....last I checked we had one of these......Seriously, wilford has been very hot and cold and has not totally lived up to his potential....if he ever will.....not a huge fan...and I watch a fair amount of the jags down here in FL...one man's opinion

No it is not 100% false. I find it ridiculous that you are putting Wilford on the same level as Walker, Stallworth, Bryant, and TO. As far as Caldwell you actually think he caught on early? Give me a break. It took most of the year for him to get his routes down and understand the offense. I am not 100% wrong. Not even close. There is a chance he could excell just as much as a rookie.

IMO Wilford would be yet another Donald Hayes in this offense. He is not worth a 4th round draft pick just to have him available in free agency next season. Give up a 4th for a 1 year player? No way.

There is no guarentee he would sign an extended contract whatsoever. That is a pure assumption.

Using the stupid team argument is lame and your argument. Could you please show where I indicated any such thing? Oh look more posting of crap. Could you at least attempt to keep a conversation inside the ballpark of reality?

Hayes and Wilford are a very similar type of player. They are both 6-4 in the 220 lb range. They play the same style of ball anf both look(ed) to have big potential but never did a single thing to show that they could break through. If you ever watched these two guys play ball, it is very interesting that they certainly do look alike in their style of play. Pull some game tape and check it out. That is based in reality and not stupidity like "same team" crap.
