I Hope he's there at 24. Everything about him, including his life experiences, just jumps off the page at you. His skills are ideal to play in our defense, and he is a big athletic guy that would make a great replacement for Bruschi when he decides to hang 'em up. Will he be there? I sure hope so. . . . . .

I think Willis will be available at 24 but at #24 I think we go with Griffin from Texas whose area on defense may be as big a concern as LB in 2008 with Harrison and Samuel possibly both gone by then retirement and greener pastures in that order,I think LB is addressed at #28-Willis still there by then?-probably not.

We have a few extra picks; lets tradeup a few spots and grab him if needed

Few extra picks to trade up in Round 1 would consist of our 2nd, and maybe 3rd if it was more then 4 spots. I don't see how that is worth it in what appears to be a very deep draft.

this guy is rated 2nd to 4th in LB so we have a good chance.A LB and a DB in the first signed for 5 yrs will be awesome value. then get a WR and LB in 3rd round as we have 2 picks .
2nd round get a good player who can contribute.

Whatever Willis was ranked before the combine will go up after as he's ranked in the top 5 in a lot of categories. I would not be surprised if he is taken in the top 20 by draft day.

While I agree completely that I would NOT trade up for Willis, I disagree about the depth of the draft. To me it looks very deep at WR, pretty deep at S and maybe OT, and otherwise pretty darn weak.

there isn't a chance in hell he'll drop to 24

While I think it's very likely Willis goes earlier now that he's had such a strong combine, I have read different sites/scouts who have the guy set to go anywhere from mid-first round to mid-second round. So as unlikely at it is at this point, it's hardly a matter of no chance in Hell, IMO.

There is pretty good depth in the draft at LB; much of that depth is DE's that figure to be tweeners that can play OLB in the 3-4. Either way, the depth in this draft provides the Pats with choices in major areas of need. I think that Willis could be gone, the Dolphins would be a good fit. I would also look into trading up into a better pick in the second round and drafting Deossie. He wont be around late in the second, and we could certainly use a heady, physical player. . .If that were the case I draft the best available DB (Griffin, McCauley), or a WR/RB (Gonzalez, Bush, Irons) at 24, and take the best player on the board, regardless of position/need, available at 28.

The guy was slipping fast until the combine. Re instated himself in the first, but probably will be there at #24. With 28 we take Meriweather, in rd 2 we take Leonard and in the third we take Zak. That is my ideal draft.

So what! Straight line speed is overrated in the NFL! Just ask Anquan Boldin about 40 yard combine times.

Funny, what I saw outta the guy reminded me more of Pass than Evans, with his catching ability, his blocking skills and his running ability. He would also be deadly in the quick to the hole clock killin' thing....

Please don't even try to compare Brian Leonard to Corey Dillon. In my opinion, too many posters on the PatsFans message board are too obsessed over drafting offensive players in the first day of the 2007 NFL Draft.

I'd like to RSVP to the Willis bandwagon as well.

"It would be a blessing, especially the way I grew up," Willis
said, when asked what he would do with his riches. "It would help
me take care of those who helped me along the way and make sure
that if I have children they won't have to go through what I went
through."

...

The real-life nightmare began when his mother left home,
abandoning her four children and forcing them to fend for
themselves with an uninterested father. Willis was 4 years old.

Two years later, Willis was cooking meals for his siblings, and
by age 10, Willis was working in Tennessee's cotton fields with his
grandmother, earning $110 per week. The money went to his dad so he
could pay the family's bills.

As a teenager, the situation worsened. When Willis learned his
father was abusing his sister, Ernicka, he turned him in to child
services and suddenly, Willis and his siblings needed to find a new
family, one that would give them the love and respect they
deserved.

...

"My real-life experience taught me how to compete through
adversity," he said. "No matter what happens, if someone knocks
you down, you have to find a way to get up and get the job done.
That's what you have to do."

If not Willis then Tim Shaw, ILB/OLB from Penn State, who also played defensive end his senior year. Tim Shaw is a team player who will sacrifice personal glory for the sake of the team.

Very smart pick with Tim Shaw. Who looks amazing so far in what ive seen of him briefly.

Closest comparison by most scouts is that he plays like a Mike Vrabel.

Something we would love to have another of.
