i think their defense gets better with another solid draft and the signing of kelsay. even though they will lose clements i think they more than make up for it with draft of either okoye or willis and other signings and moves in the front 7.

losman finished 11th in QB rating at 25 years of age in his first year under new coaches. i'd take him over noodle arm chad any day. (and don't even mention the best coach-killing QB since jeff george daunte.) and lee evans is without doubt the best big play WR in the division and one of the best in the league. this offense can only get better next season as they aren't losing any starters and they will have some additions.

the bills finished 5 & 2 after reorganizing their offensive line after the bye week, after which their LT peters didn't give up a single sack -- not bad since those 7 games featured opponents such as san diego and baltimore.

the media focuses on so-called "mangenius" because they're in new york. but if you look at their schedule last year they had a single victory over a team with a winning record, and that was the mud bowl in foxboro where the field was so bad it was torn up after the game ... that game was an anomoly that the pats made right in the playoffs, finishing with a winning record of 2 & 1 against the jets.

levy's core philosophy is that defense, offense and special teams all deserve equal attention and the bills special teams all things considered - kickoff coverage, punting, returns, FGs - is one of the league's best. that same philosophy is what got the bears to the super bowl.

with polian winning a super bowl in Indy (he was bills GM in 3 of the 4 SB losses), marv levy will be feeling he can do it too. i think the real new york team to focus on is the upstate variety in buffalo.

thoughts?

It's too early to assess any of the teams, maybe after a couple of months of Free Agency and the draft we can check out the rosters.

i was happy to learn so-called "mangenius" named busted chad his QB for next year today. ahhh, so easy on the defense when they only have to defend 15 yards past the line of scrimmage.

:eat1:

Bills are losing McGahee.

The same Bill's that have JP Losman as their QB? I think you overestimate them just a tad. Let's see what happens with their free agents first and then we'll talk.

You're either a Bills fan or you lost total site of what they're expected to lose in the next week or so.

Their defense will take huge hits once Clements, Fletcher-Baker leave through free agency, and once they release (pending) Spikes. The possible trade of McGahee will only hurt their offense. The Bills will either decline or stay stationary.

The Dolphins reportedly are very interested in Randy Moss and may be reunited with Culpepper giving instant offensive powerhouse status to the Phins..Then I would be more worried about the fins...right now they appear slightly below us in talent,The Jets will be about the same as last year and the Bills have a QB named J.P. Losman..no worries there.

Good, I'd rather we fly under the radar this off-season much unlike last year.:D

Loserman is ripe, ripe for exploitation by BB. He will not let the Bills seriously challenge the Pats for the AFCE. The Bills like many are going to suffer some FA attrition.

just like we'd never lose to dungy's colts either? look im not saying bills have a cakewalk in the afc east, i am saying of the 4 contenders bills pose the best challenge to pats. pats are still the favorite

Jets and Phins are bigger threats to the Pats in the AFCE. Here's a clue...you have to BEAT the Patriots to be a threat.

yet again your logic would have dismissed colts as a post-season threat to pats. here's a fact: colts eliminated pats from the playoffs and a chance at a 4th super bowl

You really have to see hw things shake out over FA and the draft. I think the Bills will lose some key defensive personel. I do like Losman, I think he started to come ino his owwn the 2nd half of last season. I think he will be a QB. I also love Lee Evans, he is a Patriots killer also. Not to mention they have great ST. That is a Levy staple. I can see the Bils improving. But the Jets have almost no FA, and a ton of cash under the cap. I do not like their QB, but they hae good WR who make up for poor QB play. Cotchery kills the Pats, he has scored 3 TDS aginst the PAts last year on all indivdual great efforts. Coles also causes the Pats DB fits.
Miami, new coaching staff, no one knws who wil e their QB, questions after questions. They will not be a threat. But they will play their best game of the season, and beat the Pats once late in the season, and really piss me off.

OK you make some valid points.

Here are a few of my thoughts on the Jets and the Pats.

First the Jets played the same schedule as the Pats, Bills, and Fish, so your weak schedule for the Jets theory is all huey.

The Jets are retooling in the image of the Pats and BBs system, I would think that would concern most Pats fans more then what is happening in Buffalo.

Not to diss the Bills, but they seem to be taking a step back with the potential loss of at least 4 FA starters. Losman may well turn into a qaulity QB in the league, but with the loss of his starting RB, things will only get harder for him.

Miami is a train wreck, and Moss will not get the train back on track, letting go of Joey is a mistake.

Pats are the class of the AFCE, but are showing sighns of decline ( I know Jets fans say that every year).

AFCE rankings for 2007
1 Pats
2 Jets
3 Bills
4 Fish

Agreed.

I will say that the Bills look to be losing some key FAs.
The Phins.......well, I don't think that Cam Cameron is an upgrade at the head coaching slot.
The Jets........well, like you said, let's wait to see how the offseason pans out.

funny how you so easily dismiss a young QB on a team in transition who finished 11th in QB ranking, just 2 slots behind brady.

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/stats/bycategory?cat=Passing&sort=49

i guess you also wanted brady to take a seat when bledsoe returned from injury too.

Just one slot behind the immortal Mark Brunnel and just one slot ahead of your least favorite Noodle Arm. The Bills were 1-7 vs. playoff teams. Someone should calculate JP's QB rating in those games. Second most sacks behind the equally immortal Jon Kitna. First year he threw more TD's than picks, but just barely - and not against those playoff teams. Entering his fourth season in the league, JP doesn't scare me, only the slim possibility that Buffalo may some day add a competent QB to their roster would scare me. Ditto Miami.

brunell is an anomoly, but overall the list is credible when you have manning at top and Bruce Gradkowski at the bottom. it passes the "eye ball" test. i didnt follow the list throughout the year but im almost sure JP started near the bottom in the 1st half and must have finished near the top in the 2nd half to end the year at 11th. 2nd half of the year is when the bills played better, which is the better gauge of where theyre headed since theyre a young team adjusting to an entirely new coaching staff. and late in the season they demolished the jets 31-13 in new jersey. in that 2nd half of the season JP was credited with defeating the jags with a late 4th quarter rally, and the bills came closest to beating colts in indy, losing by a mere point. they also lost a close one at home to san diego. thats a team thats improving and their young QB looks better than most QBs around the league, no question.

they dont play the same schedule, sure theres a lot of overlap with the same division and NFC games, but the remaining 6 games within the conference are determined by your previous seasons record. jets played last place schedule and got games against cleveland and oakland, which bills schedule substituted for ravens and chargers. pretty obvious who got the better of that scheduling. those 2 games can make all the difference.

Uh, you just might want to look up the Colts vs Pats last couple of years results. Duh!
