The Official: "Come Back!" Troy thread.

With it now being clear that Troy Brown is seriously considering retirement I thought we should have an official "Come Back Troy" thread.

He might not be in his prime but he's still a major contributor and is a great example for the younger players. Furthermore I think he and we all know this team is very close to "Bingo" - Troy could easilly be the difference maker.

So here's hoping that Troy hears from the fans. "ONE MORE YEAR! ONE MORE YEAR! ONE MORE YEAR!"

As much as I love Troy Brown....an all time great Patriot....its time for him to go I think. Between Gaffney and Caldwell, we have two younger receivers who better fill the slot than Troy and are better 1 & 2's (although we could use an upgrade there too).

If Troy is our best option for punt returns, extra DB help, 2nd or 3rd WR....then we truly are in trouble. A few years ago no problem, but time marches on and I would hope that the Pats can fill Troy's roster spot with a younger, better player.

I would immediately hire Troy Brown onto the coaching staff in whatever position they can come up with for him. His leadership and the respect he commands would still be invaluable, and you know he knows the game and can help out with specific assigned coaching duties.

God I hope we're not counting on Gaffney and Caldwell as our go to WRs.... Brady sure isn't. At crunch time against Indy Brady was looking for Brown. While this suggests that we could use more depth at WR, its also clear that Brady stll has faith in Troy to get the job done.

I like Gaffney and appreciate what Caldwell did - but when it comes to Troy Brown I'm in agreement with Brady.

I don't think anyone is suggesting Troy as a #1 or 2 WR - but he's earned a place on the roster without a doubt.

Bring Troy back -- even as a fourth receiver. Or a flippin coach.

Tomase used the word S-P-E-C-U-L-A-T-I-O-N.

That is the word used by the sports media uses which translates into "we have no idea, but we have to have something to say".

I think Troy should comeback for another year, if he wants to. He showed last year that he can still make a play when needed.

Troy Brown’s representatives refused to field any questions regarding his future this weekend at the NFL Combine, adding to speculation that the 14-year veteran is leaning toward retirement. Sources close to the wide receiver indicated that was his preference following the AFC Championship Game loss to the Indianapolis Colts. Had the Patriots won the Super Bowl, the belief around the team is that Brown would have walked away. The fact they fell just short leaves the door open a crack for his return, but that door appears to be closing.

Whatever he decides is alright with me, my only hope if he does come back he can continue at the high level we are accustomed to. Right now he is a great memory and do not want anything to diminish it.

I agree Troy may not be the best option at anyone of these spots but where are you going to find someone who is an option at all three. Troy provides depth and is a leader and he still can put up numbers as a WR. Plus he is the MAN.

If he returns, I hope they do him the favor of playing him strictly as a WR so those old bones can last and be effective the whole season--including the playoffs. He's already sacrificed his body in true champion style for his team.

If he doesn't want to keep playing... then I'm with whoever suggested that he return as a coach. I can't think of a better example for other players to follow.

I'm sure it's Troy's choice after what he provided the last two seasons.

As for the calls for him to coach, when are people gonna grasp that coaches work twice the hours for a fraction of the pay and most former players aren't interested in the job - at least while the children they didn't get to spend much time with while they were making 7 figure salaries during their playing careers are still young enough to call them daddy. Troy has already got a job for life with the Krafts, but it will likely be in a PR/community relations role like Andre Tippett.

For the vast majority of the current group of players, coaching is not about money. It is about staying around the game and competing. It is a chance to stay in the game and get a ring.

Just because they get older, they don't lose the competitive juices. Some might want to spend time with their families....some want to move on and compete. I don't know Troy personally...but he didn't hang around for this many years on talent alone. We will see as time goes on.

So we're unable to speak out as fans urging Troy to come back?????

I'm not so confident that his agent's silence on the issue is a ringing endoresement that he wants to return - but the point is, I think the more fans who vocally urge Troy to come back, the better.

And more than that.

I don't want Troy to leave because of sentimental reasons but also look at what we have at WR right now. Caldwell and Gaffney. That's it. Nobody else is established except for Troy. It took almost an entire season for Brady to get comfortable with his new WR's. Another departure, another transitional phase for the receiving game. We can't afford his retirement unless we sign someone who's grasped an NFL offense before. It's not like Caldwell and Gaffney are rock solid either.
