OT: Eddie Lacy. Fullback?

That's a big guy to be a rb.

Clearly, B.J Raji has put on the wrong jersey.

Christ.

Could you imagine a formation that required only 2 Defensive Lineman for the majority of snaps!

Hell, yeah, I could!! And I named it The Yankee 245, baby!! :rocker:

Looks like the decline of Jim Nance.

That's what a horrible diet will do for you. He's clearly been eating nothing but cheeseburgers and drinking malt liquor. The gut is what gives that away. He doesn't even have the muscle definition that he had at Alabama. For reference...

Looks to me like a guy that came from limited means, got paid, and has since been enjoying life.

Can't wait for the ESPN 30 for 30 five years from now: "What if I told you, three Alabama highly touted RBs drafted back to back to back, would all suck? Busts in Bama airing Friday"

Really though, three plodders in Ingram, Richardson, Lacey, all proclaimed the best RB of their draft, and all overdrafted.

You're jumping the gun a bit. I'll give you Ingram, but Richardson had 950 yards rushing and 11 TD's last season in spite of defenses routinely stacking 8 in the box due to the ineptitude of Cleveland's passing game on top of missing a game due to injury. Richardson looks like the real deal, Ingram looks like a bust, and we have no idea what Lacy will look like because he hasn't taken a meaningful NFL snap as of yet.

I will give you, though, that this isn't a good start for Lacy. TC isn't when you want to begin getting in shape.

I argue about Richardson with a lot of friends, the majority take your stance and I understand it. However, this kid was drafted 3rd overall and had the worst ypc in the league for RBs with 250+ carries. He got outperformed by two fellow rookies, Morris and Martin. You can argue Morris is a system back (although his vision is brings Richardson's to town) but Martin was undeniably the better RB.

Maybe I'm a hater, but I can't see Richardson becoming a top 5 RB, and if you're drafted 3rd overall in the passing NFL, you better be special. We'll see how he develops.

You said it yourself at the end of your post. It's a passing league. Tampa Bay had the weapons through the air that forced defenses to stay honest. Martin wasn't facing nearly as much 8 in the box as Richardson was.

On Richardson, he's probably going to be fine, though the fact that he's facing a stacked box on every play will hurt until the Browns can put together some semblance of a passing game (and since this hasn't happened since Vinny Testaverde, good luck)

But just for argument's sake, here's the statline of a few rookie running backs over the last two decades who had similar usage:

Richardson: 267 att, 950 yds (3.6 ypc), 11 tds, 51 rec, 367 yds, 1 rtds, 3 fmb

A: 241 att, 947 yds (3.9 ypc), 11 tds, 24 rec, 228 ryds, 0 rtds, 7 fmb
B: 291 att, 1115 yds (3.8 ypc), 9 tds, 35 rec, 331 ryds, 3 rtds, 5 fmb
C: 339 att, 1236 yds (3.6 ypc), 10 tds, 59 rec, 367 ryds, 0 rtds, 8 fmb

A is Emmitt Smith, B is Robert Edwards, and C is Ladainian Tomlinson. Two first-ballot Hall of Famers and a guy who we all thought was going to be great, whose career all but ended with a freak injury. (Curtis Martin and Marshall Faulk also weren't too great in ypc for their first few years either) Not saying Richardson is a future Hall of Famer, of course, but too early to judge either way.

I wouldn't count Richardson out quite so fast.

edit: just saw the subsequent conversation :)

When you take a look at the Offensive Linemen Alabama has been putting out consistently it's easy to see why Alabama RBs are over-drafted.

Still, I was quietly hoping that New England would grab Lacey. Ah well.

ROLL TIDE!
