As a fan of this team, this summer has been a quite the ride. I refrained from commenting on the Hernandez situation entirely until now. This will be the only post I ever make on it.

I know to some it might not seem like it now, but I feel his situation, at least from a football standpoint, will work in the team's favor for a number of reasons. For starters, Hernandez as a football player is next to impossible to replace or replicate but his departure will create a unification amongst the team's locker room. Similarly to the 2007 incident - the team will use this as a way to strengthen their bonds with one another and working diligently to re-establish their brand on and off the field. The circumstances surrounding this matter are unfortunate but if there's ever a team that can turn a negative into a positive and make that a benefit it's the Patriots because...

I am Ozymandias, fan of fans. Read my posts ye lurker and despair.

Seriously though, good stuff.

That's all well and good but a post as such would be better being read to players not fans. We have zero control over anything.

I dunno, but that warily sounds a lot like communism to me. Works for the bottom half of the population, who feel like they're doing better than they'd get on their own. Problem is, the top 50% of the population feel held back by the collective. That's why it failed in countries. Communism works for those in power and the segment of the population who're just jags. In the meantime, the best & brightest feel they're being swindled and getting a much smaller piece of the pie which they'd otherwise have more of had they been freed up to operate on their own. Yeah, I know, I know, there's no "I" in team but your phrase up there still looks like the commie model to me. (Asians are also crazy for the whole "team" concept in the workplace and frown upon individual achievement, but that's another story.)

Just kidding, just kidding. Good post, Ozymandias.
