INDIANAPOLIS -- Running back Corey Dillon won't be returning to the Patriots, but fullback Heath Evans will be in the fold. The team and Evans have agreed to terms on a two-year contract, according to a league source.

Evans, 28, was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent March 2. He played in all 16 regular-season games and three playoff games last season, contributing in a variety of roles -- from lead blocker, to ball carrier, to reserve third-down running back, to special teams jack-of-all-trades.

:woohoo:

.....

Didn't see that coming.

Delighted about this. I like Heath Evans, both his attitude and his play.

He actually may get some goaline touches for 5-7 TDs if Dillon is not replaced.

Great news. If I look back at many of the big runs CD and LM had last season, I'm sure many of those runs had evans blocking for them. Great player, glad he's back.

Good news. Evans is well suited for this team.

This is really great news.Heath Evans plays so many different roles on this team and his attitude is a perfect fit to be a Patriot.

oh thank god, I love everything about this guy, a true patriot

he is the typical New England Patriot player

so: i'm satisfied too

Ditto the above posts re Evans, liked him from the start.

Evans wanted to be here. The Pats wanted him. No brainer. I'm glad this got done before he hit FA though. I could see team green going after him.

Given the possibility of Garrett Mills being an h-back, I could see a situation on the goal line where Evans is the tb and Mills is possibly the blocking back.

Happy about this signing! Love Heath's approach to the game and his enthusiasm about being here!

Great move!

Evans has definitely bought into the Patriot way and is drinking the koolaid. good to see him come back as he's improved since he's been here.

I would even venture that his blocking improvement is considerably better. Ivan had done an excellent job with him.

I like the Evan's signing but don't know if he will be as effective as

Corey Dillon punching the ball in for touchdowns.

Happy to hear that. Belichick has liked him since college and Evans was clear that he wanted to be back at the end of the season. This isn't a SB winning move but I'm happy to have him back - and it lowers the chance of us drafting a luxury item like Leonard.
