Arizona gave John Abraham a two-year deal.

Another one bites the dust...

. @jeffphowe: He wanted playing time they couldn't offer RT @Winger23: @jeffphowe Pats big mistake not signing him.

Probably wanted to start, oh well.

Would've been nice, but the tea leaves were never optimistic.

He would have made one less question mark along the DL.

Look, everyone we're doing good so far, ok, just don't say it. You know what I'm talking about.

Pissah, you especially, I'm watching you.

I think he'd still be a question mark. He could come in and give us an Andre Carter year or he could come in and give us a Shaun Ellis year.

probably wanted to coast into retirement with no expectations on him and no worries that he would be on a team competing for a league title with the spotlight shining brightly down upon him

Look at it this way, he gets to go home at New Years instead of working hard for another 5 weeks. Prime time in the Carribbean at lower than Feb vacation rates.

Patriots needed to be able to move the money forward into the 3453 season.

Not really.

I don't really consider Cunningham/Bequette/Francis question marks. They're just role players. That is what Abraham would have been here in New England. A situational role player. His name doesn't match his play anymore.

Abraham, like the tweet says, would not have started here. And I'm glad Belichick refused to budge on that because Abraham is over the hill. I've gone on record how much I think Ninkovich is overrated but I'd rather have him start and Abraham come in as a situational rusher.

Along with Reed, glad we didn't sign another big name, little performance player.

I think Brady will still be playing at a high level during that season. With him under center, we're pretty much a lock to win the division.

knew he wasn't coming to the pats...at least he will get more time..a good player

Winning the Division shouldn't be the concern, it should be the Playoffs. At least the team has the opportunity to see out the development of its players and the team. We really need key rostered players to improve significantly in 2013.

not a big loss....gives BB the opportunity to play/develop the youngsters....I think our defense is going to surprise alot of people....

I think it came down to playing time. Abraham has maintained he wanted to play somewhere where he could get about 70% of the reps. He wasn't getting it in New England. He is an immediate starter in Arizona.

I am thinking this wasn't as much about money as playing time. Several teams looked at him, but none were looking at him as a full time player (at least it didn't seem like they were). Abraham would have been a rotational guy here.

I personally figured it was a very good chance he would end up here with the lack of interest from a team that could use him as a full time starter, but I never expected a team like the Cardinals (especially since he hasn't really played in a 3-4 all that much) to step in with a starting job.

The Cards cut Obrian Schofield to make room for Abraham. He was a real good pass rusher before he blew his knee out in the Senior Bowl. The Pats need a pass rusher. Bring in Schofield and see if brings anything to the table. He has been injury plagued but hopefully that is behind him.Following him at Wisconsin, I know he is a good guy and very hard worker.

Please remember that we are not looking for a DE starter, anymore. We finally have a pair in Jones and Ninkovitch. We were looking for the 3rd and 4th startable pass rushers. Jamie Collins, Jake Bequette, or Cunningham et al, are in that contest.

In fact there is only one defensive position, or hole, for which the Pats are/were seeking a starter, and that is coverage OLB. Hence it is not surprising that the first draft pick was for such a talent. They even imported a Big Nickle SS to cover the TEs in Adrian Wilson to allow time to break in, and have a reserve too.

For the first time in the four year rebuilding since 2009, the Defense has no holes, and at least one "startable" reserve everywhere. The rest of the League had best beware.

Turning to the Offense, there is only one remaining job to do. Now to find a talented rook WR to replace the average "X" receiver Michael Jenkins, and the entire rebuilding is complete. Even if the interior DL is still a patchwork of very talented but aging vets.

Don't sleep on Arizona, if Palmer and Fitzgerald can get on the same page they could be a very competitive team, their defense is going to be very good.

No disrespect to your opinion Brady6 but do you seriously believe that a team Quarterbacked by the Carception is going to be a productive Playoff team? Sure, he'll put up some gaudy numbers and probably rejuvenate Larry Fitzgerald (the clear standout receiver in the league behind Megatron) but Palmer finds a way to turn the football over at the most inopportune times.

To me, Palmer is a name Quarterback not a substance Quarterback.
