I'm probably going to miss something and this will be so basic many old hands will wonder why I'm even making this thread.

New fans not as accustomed to snow and cold might want a primer.

One, get a map.. With the possible exception of Buffalo, Minnesota, Seattle, and Chicago - Foxboro is about as far north as an NFL team can go. New York is fricken' balmy by comparison. Not that it can't get cold there, but if it is 28 degrees in NY it is probably 21 degrees here. The biggest difference with NY is usually in January and February - you never see the Jets hosting then.:)

If you see snow before, say, halloween, it is a flurry, That is to say it is no big deal. It'll probably melt soon and only needs a broom to clear the walk.

After, about Thanksgiving, snow fall is a real possibility.

And the cold is different than in Denver. While we don't have thin air, we have humidity. In other cold places it is dry. If you sweat then sit on a bench, it evaporates. Here you end up sitting in wet clothes.

Oh, those heaters are nice, but sorta useless. Too close and it is too hot. Too far away and it might as well not exist. And if you have your back in the millimeter of good temperature zone (carefully not sweating:)), your front is freezing.

Oh, we haven't technically had a blizzard since 1898 or something. You know a snow storm is a blizzard if they cancel the game and news reports start with a body count. The bad storms, may you never see one ('cuz I have to live in that crap:) ) are called Nor'easters.
Here is a link to highlights of a famous weather game.

we haven't had a blizzard since 1898???...WTF was that event that buried me in 4 feet of snow in '78?

my apartment was just to the right of the edge of this pic...about 100 feet away...5 young women stayed in my 1 bedroom apartment for 4 days....heh...I slept on my floor with my cat...krist....

Wait! If we haven't had a blizzard since 1898, how did my grandfather walk five miles in the snow in a blizzard up hill every day to school during the winter? That's what he used to tell me. Are you calling my grandfather a liar?

That's a tragedy. You had 5 young women in your apartment for 4 days straight and you snuggled with the cat?!?

well...I DID end up with a couple of phone numbers...which I hid from the wicked witch of West Greenwich...she musta called me 900 times during that stretch .." I know you got another woman there with you!!! you rotten sonuvabiatch!!!.."...and one of the fine young ladies ended up booking a trip to Bora Bora for me a few years later...wasn't a total loss, Rob...

I'll take the bait and assume this was directed towards us SEC fans from FLA. :) I've watched a few Pats games in my day and seem to remember that the Pats snow clearing gang picked favorable times to clean the yard markers. :D

Though I'm a native Floridian, I spent 5 years in NY out on the island, 3 years in Columbus Ohio, a year in Colorado Springs and one winter up at NAS Whidbey Island in WA.

Now if you really want to talk snow, how about 13' to 15' high snow banks on each side of the road (as in sheer walls). That is all roads outside of town. Back in the '70s I had the opportunity to work in both Sweden and Finland off and on for a period of three years at various times of the year. This included Sundsvall Sweden, Imatra Finland, Kouvola Finland and Kemi Finland. Only Kemi was north of the Arctic Circle but after seeing the snowfall at each of these places what was a few hundred clicks one way or the other.

One interesting facet of life in Kouvola was their local ski jump. During my first visit in the summer of '73 I saw that it was located on top of a 30' sheer rock cliff. The road passed by with the cliff on one side and a forest of trees on the other side. I could not find a landing zone for that jump and it perplexed me. Later the locals told me that the snowfall in that area covered the road and the trees for about 6 months. I later went back during the winter and would watch the jumping there on the weekends. Much later I wished that I had taken pictures of the summer and winter scenes of that jump. Oh and the farther north you go, the shorter the trees get, I don't think that I saw any trees in Finland over 30'.

Snow I know and I do enjoy playing in it. I just cannot stand going to work in it so I managed to work my way south again by late '75. Now if I go play in the snow, it's called a vacation and it's usually at Purgatory north of Durango or Santa Fe Trails in NM. :D

Green Bay's a bit more north than NE too, I also remember shoveling 15 inches of flurries a couple Halloweens ago.

Even worse, it was uphill both ways !

As they say in New England (and just about everywhere else in the US, as it turns out): "Don't like the weather here, just wait a minute!" Or, in the current case, a few years.

Could be worse. You could have been the Titans. . . . 15 inches and 59 points. :D

That's the true tragedy...

I don't think you know what a "blizzard" is, meterogically speaking.

Technically that was a Nor'easter. Look up blizzard and degrees. Technically it was to warm.

Yes, it is like saying a decade is '01 to 10, not '00 to '09.

Call they guy who defined it every name in the book or whatever; I'm just the messenger.

No, I'm saying he is unaware of the temperature technicality, like Joker.

Yeah, I forgot Green Bay. And I said "usually" or some other modifier.

Guilty as charged. No offense intended. I remember long ago talking with a Miami Dolphin fan when we were both in St. Louis about a "raging blizzard" game in Foxboro. I had to think about what game he was talking about. (This was a pre-Marino, Patriots in red game.)

that temperature technicality sure comes as a tremendous comfort to those stuck in 6 foot drifts for 5 days...

Hey, I recognize that guy. Isn't that from "Jeremiah Johnson"?

If that technically was a blizzard we'd still be talkin' 'bout the people who died, not the people who had to hole up with 5 chicks.:)
